Thanks for posting

I forgot the band used to sit in the student section

for games when the students don't fill that section, the band should move down there

I was just thinking the other day when I saw that attendance at the CSUB game was 3,000 and some change. That would have filled half of Harmon. The Kidd Era really seduced us into thinking we would have a hoop program that would fill a 12,000 capacity facility for the foreseeable future. Oops.

I was at the Bakersfield game this Monday and estimate the attendance was closer to 300 than 3000. Even including both teams, staff, spirit groups, and security I doubt we had 1000 people there.

That's not right. I did a rough count of half the seats and estimate attendance was under 2500

one of the few things I'm sad about from my time at Cal was never really getting to see a great home win, let alone a ranked upset or a court storm. In my four years, here are the only home wins that were even semi notable:

Feb 2, 2022 vs Stanford (who was 15-13 at the time)
Jan 26, 2024 vs Stanford (10-9 at the time)
Feb 7, 2024 vs USC (The game Lebron came)
Feb 24, 2024 vs Oregon (18-9 at the time)
Jan 22, 2025 vs Florida State (13-6 at the time)

4 years and 5 "quality" home wins with students not on break. And the Stanford ones are stretching "quality" (but still meaningful to me).

I loved cheering the basketball team but I can't lie, it bums me out that I had 4 years and pretty much no real great wins. I guess I should count myself lucky that I wasn't a Wyking-Fox or Fox-only student... but it's hard not to be jealous of the students who got to see the Braun or Monty or Cuonzo eras and see competitive basketball.

Sometimes I think about the implications for the donor pipeline- nearly a decade of bad, losing basketball with pretty empty arenas will be hard to overcome in catalyzing all the students who didn't experience the joy as shown in the video of upsetting #1 Arizona.

My freshman year was '09/10, when MBB won the Pac-10. I got to rush the court for the win that clinched the conference…and also for this Cobbs game winner. I really didn't fully appreciate how good I had it as a Cal bball fan until the Wyking/Fox era.

Go back and count the conference wins during my stint at Cal, 1972-1976.

*At least we had good football teams.

I remember that team, arguably the best Cal football team since the late 50s Rose Bowl team.

No argument, it was the best team since then, and considerably better than the Rose Bowl team for that matter.
