I just got off the phone with my Gold Standard rep. I had been trying to exchange tonight's tickets for a couple extra seats for the grandkids for a game next week. The web page told me I had no tickets to exchange. That was strange because I have been exchanging tickets for years and just exchanged a ticket on Saturday for football…. So, I called.
Someone decided we shouldn't be able to exchange our basketball tickets. They ended the program, without notice. That is very sad for me. The ability to exchange was the only reason I bought the whole season. I have no need to attend every game and never have. It was not a big deal to miss a game. It wasn't like throwing money down the drain. I would just turn them into a game down the road. It was good for Cal. Those tickets 'down the road' always cost a bit more, so the exchanges always put a bit more cash in the AD's pocket. At the end of the season, I almost always had more tickets than I needed, so I organized groups and got casual fans to games they would not have seen. My grandkids have been, over time they might have become fans. If they did I would end up buying more tickets. A lot of that won't happen now.
And so, after 30+ years of being a season ticket holder, this is likely my last. I'm sure that I will still go to a few games, but I know you won't see me at the next Bakersfield or St Somebody, or SE Nowhere State game. It wasn't Fox or Wyking that drove me away, it was a stupid, short sighted decision by the AD. Sad day for me.
