The Web site still says the yellow jackets will hassle you about an umbrella
https://calbears.com/sports/2023/10/24/basketball-fan-code-of-conduct.aspx
… but last year this was not enforced, leaving me confused every time there's a miserable weather game night like tonight.
Anyone know the actual umbrella truth?
Another Eff-u to the fans, get soaked just to see some basketball.

I'd like to know this as well. Heading over in an hour.

We're probably the only (soggy) saps going. 6,000 came to Louisville (about 2,000 were Louisville fans), I'm curious if we can keep that attendance bar high for the ACC games.

I researched this last year, but the results were FUBAR. Copy of my post below:

I just checked the "Game Day Policies" link on today's email about Men's BB.

"EVENT POLICIES

Haas Pavilion

Prohibited Items: ....Umbrellas..."

Compare that to the information on the "Haas Gameday A - Z" site:

https://calbears.com/sports/2022/8/17/2022-haas-gameday-a-to-z-guide.aspx

"Permitted Items

The following items are permitted in Haas Pavilion: ... Umbrellas..." [Note: This page ALSO shows a picture of an umbrella with a slash through it as a "prohibited" item that will be seized.]

I'm outside, and it seems like a decent crowd. We'll see once I'm inside.

And the umbrellas?

I ended up leaving my umbrella in the car because it was only a light sprinkle, but it seemed like people were bringing in umbrellas (at least the small portable fold up kind).

You can bring your umbrella, but you can't open it indoors. Some idiot did that at the end of the Cuonzo era and we ended up with 7-years bad luck. Some whale had to write a big check to the almighty and a witch doctor to have the spell broken. Don't f-it up.

The past couple of games I brought my collapsible umbrella in my see-through plastic bag. No problem at the gate.

Same with me, I took my collapsible umbrella and had no issues whatsoever.

Do they allow drones as long you bring it in a clear bag?

I haven't had any problem bringing a compact umbrella into basketball games at Haas this season. At one point, I think they had the signs from Memorial posted at Haas, even though the 'no umbrella' rule is supposed to be for Memorial. There also used to be signs saying that the long golf umbrellas weren't allowed at Haas, but I don't know if that is a current rule or not.

So the answer still seems to be no answer, thanks Cal AD. The umbrellas should come off the prohibited list, period. I don't want the yellow jackets taking out measuring tape to decide what is compact and what is not.
There is no justification for prohibiting umbrellas except for "potential weapons." And if they think people in the Bay Area who want to brawl are bringing umbrellas to fight with, they're more out of touch than I thought.
The most rabid, brawl ready fans I've seen at Haas this year are a Cal dad and his 11-year-old who love to dance at the time outs.
Lift the ban.

I always thought the ban on umbrellas at Memorial was because of the concern that people would block the view of people behind them if it was raining. Since that is not an issue at Haas, I think you could bring one in unless you decide to open it to dry or something. I'm originally from Eureka.so a little rain doesn't bother me, but I'll bring a jacket if it looks like it will rain.

I did go to the Louisville and ND games. It's interesting that Cal and Stanford lost their first games, but won their second. Maybe it was the weather or too much partying by the visiting teams on NYE.

for the ND game they had disposable clear umbrella bags, so I think you can bring small collapsable umbrellas (although the sign outside of prohibited items still shows umbrellas)

The policy at Memorial seems so silly. We have to walk to and from BART or our parking spot, so why don't they let us bring umbrellas but just have a rule that we cannot USE them in the stadium? I guess they don't trust fans to comply in the stadium when it is raining.

See my post above. They now allow umbrellas and provide plastic bags so water doesn't drip on the floor

I was talking about the policy at Memorial Stadium, but I believe you're referring to Haas.
