Honestly I am failing to see the point if you can't be WAY above the House minimum. All you are doing is serving as the development squad for the Georgia, Illinois and whomever grabs Pippen and Ames. The incremental money I am not sure has any value - maybe lets you give a nice modest bag to good guys like Bell and Camden but you could also save puppies or provide NIL to the women's team or let Tosh sign another guy.
I was really naive to believe that we could hang onto 2 of the starting 5. I doubt we have any of them by tomorrow.
Why are we panicking about everything? We are panicked that a modestly successful coach is going to take a job he was never seriously considered for. We are panicked that 2 decent players are testing their value market when we should have expected they would.
I agree we need to keep these guys, but we haven't lost them yet.
I will completely agree with you that we should invest enough in NIL or not at all. I've argued for years that Cal pretty much invests the maximum amount they can in revenue sports to still suck and they need to go one way or the other.
Frankly, keeping these two is important, but if that's all we do, if we don't do that AND sign fundamentally better players, we are spinning our wheels.
I guess I just don't see that there is any indication we are about to take a big leap forward for me to get heavily invested in losing a mid level coach that we can replace easily or mid level players who will all take us to mid level results.
