Yes, the courts have decided that "enforced amateurism" in the context of the multi-billion dollar business of college sports is illegal. The players can essentially be paid and are professionals. If you exclude others (who would otherwise be eligible, but even that is getting torn down, brick by brick) from gaining a spot where they can be paid, that is restraint of trade and is illegal.

At some point, will the requirement that college players actually take classes be challenged? After all, it has nothing to do with the requirements of the job, so in that sense could be considered arbitrary or discriminatory. Of course, schools like UK will just shrug since it's just business as usual for them.
