Freshman: started 30 games for Syracuse
Sophomore: started 32 games for Syracuse
Junior: played in 33 games for Syracuse (started first 13)
Senior: played in 34 games for Cal, started in 33.
Yeah, unless they give 5 full years of eligibility, it isn't even close.

New rules just passed, 5 seasons of competition.
However, Chris Bell appears to be in that unfortunate first row of the table, only 4 seasons. But I'll bet there's an appeal process happening for the 25-26 seniors to sweep them into the new rules regime.

He's a good college player. The minutes for sure, the money, I don't know.

Perhaps the biggest weakness on next year's team looks to be shooting. So Bell would definitely get minutes.
That being said, I doubt he's granted another year...so this is probably a moot point.
I like Bell, but he has "G-League at best" written all over his game. But I can't blame him for trying for another year of eligibility since NIL must be better pay than G-League.
IMHO Bell has plenty of talent and skill but more effort on defense and rebounding would do wonders for his game.
Maybe Bell was hoping to get a temporary injunction like these players. Shame it looks like he wasn't able to get one.

If this holds up it will allow Bell and Campbell to play in 2026-27. I suspect we have too many guards ahead of Campbell to make him much of an offer.

I don't know how the NCAA wins this on a basic fairness argument, you don't arbitrarily award one set of players an extra year of earning power based on whether they were lucky enough to be born one year vs. the next. Pretty stupid way to write a rule, and I don't see Congress bailing them out either.

Why does the NCAA even care that much? It is their new rule from now on, why not have it apply now? We are only talking about a single season. Would be better if they just turned their attention to adjusting their rules to accommodate the ruling for this season, the only season it will impact.

I am puzzled why he is having trouble sticking with a g league team. He is tall and he can shoot from distance. Defense never seemed to be a major factor in the nba but maybe I am wrong. Something else.

Yup - true of essentially all college teams. Underscores the huge jump from college to the NBA.

He won games for us with his shooting, but his passing, rebounding and defense aren't so hot.

I like the sound of this, let's put in two G-League teams as play-in teams for March Madness. Who are we kidding, the G-League is just another "college-like" conference with 20-somethings who get paid to play basketball (and paid less than the P5 players), why not see how they match up in the tournament? I'm not so sure they would go deep, but would love to watch the games to see them try.
The solution to the Chris Bell situation is apparent he needs to join the women's team they should be able to put him on as a walk on provide him with nil and his presence would make the Cal Women's team probably one of the top teams in the country if not the best this is in keeping with the wnbas position too so it's politically correct

"It's an amateurism rule" (from the NC State coach in the article) is laughable. College players are being paid now. They have agents. Declaring for the draft is not even the same as being paid by the NFL or NBA.
It will be interesting to see if a Conference is not seen as a cartel and a prohibition against these players is not seen as a "group boycott" and a "refusal to deal." The key is that conferences don't "employ" players, individual schools do. Discovery may show communication between the conferences on this issue too.
It could have just been a one year exemption to accommodate players who chose before the new rule granting 5 years of eligibility and before the courts' ruling.
My guess is these players will not play this year as the season will start before it is decided in the courts and then they will win big judgements for their losses (with damages trebled). Stupid.
It will be interesting to see what the non-power conferences do and if any of these players go there. Especially in basketball. Is Notre Dame football bound by ACC rules?
