Why did the dump-off to Thurman work so well?

Was he doing something to get open? Were the other players doing something different? Was UNLV missing assignments? Was this a calculated effort by the coaching staff?

(I was fortunate to even watch the game, what with my two little kids in the room... no time for replays!)

Because everytime Cobbs and Crabbe touched the ball, their defense over-reacted and forgot Robert can dunk...lol.

UNLV bigs really like to block shots. It makes them feel manly. UNLV had 6 blocks. Call had 18 assists on 26 buckets.

The curls were working great all game to get Crabbe and Cobbs into the lane. UNLV never figured out how to stop them so we just kept doing them, sort of like how we did down in LA where Crabbe went for 21 and 27. We hadn't used them much recently, so maybe they expected us to do more of our weave out at the top of the key.

Unfortunately the curls -- and dribble penetration in general -- will probably be less effective against Syracuse' zone. Hope we can hang with them. Go Bears!

Personally, I think the curls and weave is MORE effective against zone. Zones are great when like today, UNLV runs a lot of ISO stuff. When a team has good floor movement, its a lot easier to pick the holes in the zone. You catch teams switching etc. Remember when the Randle team played Cuse. That Syracuse zone tore us up, because we had 4 shooters space the floor, but really not a lot of movement. I don't know that we'll beat Syracuse..but I'm a little more confident this time around. Oh yeah we also really missed Theo that game too lol.

Yeah, it's not a traditional curl off a screen, necessarily, but you can find holes in a zone if you know what you're doing. If Crabbe has another big game getting into the paint by moving without the ball, we have a shot.
