...salary as 825K which is odd on a couple of fronts:

1) ESPN usually doesn't list a player's salary unless it's signed and guaranteed (which, in Crabbe's case it doesn't need to be since he's a 2nd rounder and isn't technically a lock to make their roster), and...

2) That figure is above the league minimum which is all a team needs to pay its 2nd round picks.

It might be a mistake by ESPN, but if it is accurate, it is somewhat remarkable.

I thought Crabbe was signed for 3 years. I don't remember where I got that from but I might be wrong. I think I glanced at something like that.

here is one link on AC's contract:

http://www.spotrac.com/nba/portland-trail-blazers/allen-crabbe/

Contract: 2 yr(s) / $1,306,662 Average Salary $653,331 Guaranteed: $1,306,662

2013-2014 490,180
2014-2015 816,48

so, looks like both years are guaranteed.

no30 in 1st round: Nemanja Nedovic as reference got:
Contract: 2 yr(s) / $2,160,960 Average Salary $1,080,480

Based on the above link, looks like the first 2 years are guaranteed and there is a club option for a third year.

It's well known that only first round picks get guaranteed contracts. AC missed that by 1 slot, and that meant he had to earn the contract on his own merits.

I think it's a good sign that they signed AC to two year contract. It means they see his potential (remember they also traded for him). Neither decision was mandatory.

I do think it's going to take time for AC to adjust to the NBA speed, physicality and length. It will also take time for him to adjust to the NBA three which is substantially farther. On the other hand, they will design plays for him, and he will have more space to shoot then he had in college, where defenders were basically draped all over him.

there's nothing that prevents a team from giving a 2nd round pick a guaranteed contract. If they sign a 1st round pick it has to be to a guaranteed deal whereas it's optional for 2nd round picks, but it's not unheard of. For a while it seemed like it was happening with some regularity as teams were afraid of getting Arenas'ed (typically they'd give the guarantee for a couple years to get a team option for a 3rd year).

"Guaranteed Contract" means you get paid whether you make the roster or not. There is no rule that says non-first rounders can't get them. It sounds like you are referring to the automatic guaranteed contracts that go to first rounders?

Just saw an article saying Portland has signed veteran Mo Williams as back up PG to Damian Lillard. Mo took less money to be a non-starter on a team on the rise.
What does this back court roster-crowding mean for Crabbe?

A team signing a backup point guard doesn't really have anything to do with Crabbe. The guys relevant to him are Wesley Mathews, Will Barton, and Sasha Pavlovic, particularly the last two.
