The article describes Jack Taylor's 109 point game. But the video clip is from his 138 point game. A lot of his points come from 3 point range, which is more remarkable than Wilt's 100 point game scoring on close shots over much shorter players.

Taylor benefits from Grinnell's unique, full court press systemeither getting the steal and immediately looking for a three-pointer or allowing the other team a quick, easy layup to get the ball back.

At some points last season, Grinnell would unleash the "Bomb Squad," which was comprised of freshmen who would immediately go for the steal or foul right away to get the ball back.

I am intrigued about "the bomb squad". It is a really interesting question of essentially running out 5 players with the idea of giving up 25 fouls while running a full court trap. It would be interesting to see what the average points per possession is in a college game and whether playing "hack a shaq" and trading two FT for a 3 point attempt could in some cases make sense.

Or maybe that the TFS of hoop - which works great at D3 but fails at once at the big time ;-)

Grinnell's style reminds me of Paul Westhead's whose 1990 Loyola Marymount team averaged 122.4 ppg playing the run & gun while making it to the NCAA regional finals before losing to eventual national champs UNLV. He also head-coached in several other venues including the Lakers, Bulls and Nuggets. He is currently the hc of the Oregon women's team.

Re Wilt's 100 point game, it should also be noted that his teammates fouled freely to get the ball back and fed Wilt inside for easy baskets, and that the undermanned Knicks gave only token resistance through most of the game.
