Mathews just puts his head down and goes to the basket. No fear. But his 3 pt shooting is not there lately.

Mathews drove to the line, got fouled, and before the free throws, Monty is over there saying something to Solo and Cobbs et al on the bench and they started chuckling. I imagined he was saying, "Jesus, guys, I told you this new rule change meant that all you have to do is throw yourself to the basket and you're going to get the call."

Wallace has been doing it, and now Mathews is getting the hang of it. Monty wants Solo to do the same.

Except for Bird, apparently. Twice called for charges that looked like blocks under the new rule interpretation.

Totally agree ... those two "charging" calls were questionable to begin with .... with the new rules, I would think they would have been blocks easily

I thought the charge calls were only borderline. Bird seemed out of control on one of them, and I couldn't argue with the call. The other charge he wasn't out of control, but the guy had position. Close, but I couldn't argue. Bird also got 1-2 blocks later in the game that were again questionable.

I thought the call against him on the blocked shot was bad, though.

I don't think Bird's hands hit the shooter, but I saw some body contact on the way up.
