Cool to see you warming the bench, playa. Should have just come to Cal to be on the winning end of this one.

Yah baby! So fun to beat Oregon like this. Monty helps us be respectable and have some good times. What a coach. I know we match up well against Oregon, but this is ridiculous.

Is he not first and foremost a footballer?

Go Bears!

Of course. But with Cal sports, I take my fun as I can get it.

...who thought he could enroll in January and play right away for the Bears. If he can't see the floor in his 2nd year for the size challenged Ducks, no way he'd crack a Cal lineup with Solo, Kravish and Kamp fresh out of HS.

We were all remembering Tony Gonzalez. He came from football and became a big player in the NCAA tourney, I know you know. But, if he could do this, why not Armstead. I was watching from Perry's in SF. Fun.

Well, he has to stand by his choices, but I have a feeling if he came to Cal, he would be playing some on the hoops team. He can be pleased he has the winning football team but as far as hoops go, he is only a spectator

"...if he could do this, why not Armstead." Well, maybe because Tony G. was a better BB player than Armstead. Or because TE skills translate better to the BB court than DL skills. Or that Armstead wasn't much more than the biggest dude on the court in HS in an area not noted for great HS BB. Joshua Smith was a legitimate 5* prospect and barely saw the floor at UCLA as a frosh, admittedly largely due to conditioning. Josh Garnett was a very good HS basketball player but doesn't play at Stanford. It takes a lot more than size to step out of HS and play DI BB.

For some reason, I doubt Arik Armstead is upset over how things turned out. He's a fairly significant player on the Oregon football team and he's got free courtside seats to the Oregon basketball games!

Yet, I want to think that maybe a part of him is crying on the inside at not contributing to the Cal football team and watching Monty's coaching genius first-hand.

He wasn't going to play hoops here either in spite of what Tosh was telling him during his recruitment. He is a football player, (and should be an offensive lineman, not a defensive lineman to get to the next level). He is not a basketball player of consequence at this level.

Actually Armstead is only one of 5 new players for the Ducks waiting for their chances to play.

I don't know that I'd call 13 tackles in his sophomore year after being an early entrant significant but Cal still could've used him with all the injuries they had.

Wasn't he like a top 5 recruit nationally? Man, it just goes to show you, it's hard to determine who will make an impact and when. I mean look at Chris Harper who wasn't super highly rated but was balling from day 1. You never know. Moala was a 5 star too. Was he good? Yah. Did he live up to 5 star billing? No.

He was a top 5 recruit nationally assuming he was going to play OT. He has the perfect body and quick feet to be an absolutely dominant OT at the college level. Unfortunately, he wanted to play defense and he is nowhere near the player on defense as he is or could have been on offense.
The decision to play defense could ultimately cost him tens of millions of dollars.

This is true. He would likely excel on the Oline.
