Obviously, a streak such as this has a significant element of luck involved, but more importantly, it shows the impact of coaching. Oregon has had a lot of talented athletes over the years, but Ernie Kent and Dana Altman (who is much better than Kent, IMO) run a relatively undisciplined style of basketball, and a detail-oriented coach such as Monty who really knows how to exploit weaknesses and design defenses has a huge advantage.
Agreed.
Altman seems to have adopted the USC model from a few years ago with all these transfers. He had a good NCAA run last year, but I wonder about the team chemistry, and the ability to develop more disciplined play. A guy like Dom Artis, while he is playing, has taken a back seat (and reduced minutes) to Joe Young. I doubt he's overjoyed by that as a sophmore. Damien Dotson, who is also very good and only a sophmore, can't be thrilled with the prospect of incoming transfer Brandon Austin from Providence next year, who will likely take some of his minutes. I'll bet both of those guys thought at the end of last year that they would be featured more than they are this year. I know depth is good, but I think Cal has done better with longterm stability and development (especially Cobb, Solomon, Kravish for example) as opposed to bringing in many guys who are one and done.
