Enjoyed this one more than Thursdays.

OSU is a nightmare match up for us with their three point shooting and solid post presence. We were sky high after the Ducks win and dog tired given the minutes our starters had to play. OSU has a big crowd for them and the excitement of the Payton uniform retirement.

Then, we get rocked from the start with their scorching of the nets in the 1st half, yet we win decisively.

Monty's 2nd half adjustments were fantastic. Our bench played really well across the board. Wallace and Cobbs continue to be outstanding four tool players - scoring, rebounding, passing and defense. It's almost hard to imagine that they will not play well.

Powers is a weapon for us with his shooting and frankly a necessity with Bird and Kreklow out. Mathews is going to be a nice player for us but he's a long ways from being a consistent threat.

Kravish and Solomon are almost as consistently strong as our starting guards. That foursome is as good as any four in the conference.

Can't wait to get Bird back next week and Kreklow the week after for the LA road trip.

explain now why Monty isn't the best coach in the league right now. That win was a gut check.

Monty said on postgame Bird wanted to go tonight vs OSU but monty said with no practice..no way. So expect Bird back for UW, if even only a few minutes.

Watching Monty coach against Robinson is like watching Godzilla vs. Bambi.

Monty gets the game ball. No question. Halftime was essential. Powers has earned himself in any rotation, with or without Bird and Kreklow. Sorry, he brings something special when all else goes astray.

I think the thing is with Monty is if he gets to know a coach, he can gameplan to the coach's weaknesses. I think that is part of the reason his teams are better in conference.

Is it me, or does Monty look especially calm these days? I mean when Cobb had a brain fart at half court at Oregon, Monty didn't react. There were many times he could have today too. It's kind of nice to see. Of course, we need fiery Monty at times, but last year I was worried for him as things were really getting to him (culminated in the push).

I think that it is also because it takes him a while to figure our what are his best options in how to play with the guys he has each year. Almost always there is substantial change from the previous season. This season in particular, given how many guys are contributing (Bird, Kreklow, Mathews, Singer, Rooks, Behrens, Powers) who did not play much or at all last year. And the guys who did contribute are somewhat changed from last year also and for the better due to his incredible ability to teach and mold.

By the start of conference, he has his orchestra more or less humming along.

My favorite plays (lots of them):

1. Cobbs two alley oops to Solo before the half (it kept us within striking distance)

2. Solo alley oop in the 2nd half

3. Powers 4 treys

4. Wallace's tomahawk dunk

5. Cobbs going "parallel to the floor" and having enough body control to lay it in

6. Behrens' nice little lay in (very athletic)

7. Kravish rejection on Nelson for a fast break

8. Rooks rejection

I would put Ty's back court steal of the ball from Nelson up there with any of the above. It really made it clear that OSU would not be rallying enough to win at the end of the game. Nelson fouled Ty going for the ball, the ref missed it, but Ty had the presence to call a timeout and we kept the ball.

A critical play at that stage of the game.

Oh yah that was a back breaker. He did something like that at Oregon too and I think they wrongly called it a foul. I think he was on Nelson all 2nd half and pretty much shut him down. Ty is a match up nightmare as a defender with his height and wingspan, yet not compromising quickness.

Ty looks like this team's Igoudala defender.

Apparently, as the announcers indicated, Nelson in the second half had only one field goal with Ty taking away all his open 3 looks and generally hounding him.

That is, till the last hectic minutes, when (iirc) Nelson still did not get any 3's till the one at the buzzer. He ended up with a lot of points, but Ty's defense on him was critical to our overall better defensive energy in the second half.

Ty can make one pull his/her hair, with his erratic shooting, but the young man is a gamer and a huge part of our success.

I would add that play when Nelson charged into his own man (Brandt?), although it wasn't a Cal play :p

Nice list. I would add the three offensive fouls that Powers drew. The analyst thought the last one was a 'tough' call, but I thought all three were clearly correct. Those were maybe just as important as his points.

Powers' game is pretty limited, but he gets the max out of his ability.

I missed the game - who defended Nelson in the first half?

Good points.

As to the OP, a lot of contributors last night. We didn't panic, although I was stressing early on (silly me).
