Well, another disappointing season of Cal hoops comes to an end. I have no interest in the NIT.

Too bad; after such a great effort, Justin misses two chances to tie. Oh well.

Our boys made a game of it at the end. Proud of em. Maybe I get to see them at MSG sooner than I thought.

Remember those guys in the national media who were commending MM so much when we were 5-0 in conference play. Talking about how he knows how to win with every roster and adapts to his guys. Acting like Cal was going to be a dangerous tourney team. Cal promptly went 5-9 the rest of the way. Some things never change.

Why? They decided to not play until 10 to go in the 2nd. Another cal team not ready to play. We've seen this before.

This was just a bad year for Monty. We've seen him get more out of less, but I think he underachieved with this cast.

Sadly that was our MO this season. Only show up sometimes. We have a lot of capable scorers, it's too bad they all never showed up at the same time.

To put this on Monty is ludicrous !! I watched every game this team played on TV this year and I never saw Montgomery shoot any bricks, miss a single free-throw, or lose the ball while dribbling into triple team defenses !!! As Ernie Kent said, "it's not the X's and O's ... it's the Jimmy's and Joe's" !!! This team, for whatever reason, never developed an identity or reinforced roles ... and continued to show indifference to the execution of fundamentals.

We lost the game by three points, yet look at the statistics for second chance points, free-throw percentage, three-point shooting percentage, turnovers, and rebounding. Losing any of those categories in a game can subject a team to losing a close game. Losing in four of five makes it a near certainty !! Most of the three balls missed by Colorado created long rebounds falling 6 to 10 feet from the rim. Solo and Kravish are down low and those balls are the responsibility of the 1, 2, and 3 positions, filling the lane and blocking out secondary rebounders.

None of our flashy freshman stepped up today. Byrd was ineffective on offense and has shown to be a general liability on defense. Singer is a solid ball handler but has not developed any confidence in his offensive game. I am shocked that for a 36 point-a-game guy in high school, he doesn't shoot the jumper with more confidence or consistency. His shots from long range are too flat and often skim the front rim, clanking off the back rim. (The higher the arc, the larger the rim becomes) Byrd is a "tweener" ... Too short to handle a taller 3 and unable to create his own shot against taller, faster competition than he faced in high school. Don't get me wrong, he has a tremendous upside, but he has a lot of work to accomplish during the off-season. I can't believe I'm saying this, but I think they really missed the length and bulk Rooks in the paint on defense.

If you can't get up to play 40 minutes of inspired ball for an opportunity to go to the NCAA tournament, I don't see these guys getting particularly juiced up to play in the N I T. If you think you saw a lackluster effort for about 30 minutes today, just wait for the stinker they have in store for you on the first night of that "who gives a shyte" tourney they're about to play in. I don't think it's going to be pretty !!

Let the criticism of me begin. I couldn't care less. I've been a loyal Cal fan for over 60 years and to acknowledge that is to reveal that you been through more than your share of disappointing seasons, so fire away.

How so? Monty gets paid (a lot) based on results, which includes among other things properly motivating the team. I don't think calling out players is fair (however true) because that's Monty's job. It's his job to get them to execute his plan for winning. That's what coaching is. There's plenty of blame to go around but Monty is ultimately accountable, as it should be. I don't see how you can make an argument that he had a good year as a coach but couldn't get his players to listen. Now that's ludicrous!

what you say is true, but there really isnt much monty can do about brick city. there have been some just god awful shots thrown up of late -- airball wide open threes. monty can't shoot the ball for these guys.
