Dayton lookin good vs OSU early. Pretty much flying up and down the court like they did vs us.

both teams are huge, with guards that tower over our forwards. not sure when we will ever figure it out, but you need tall, big guys to compete at this level.

Dayton's guards are:
Sibert 6-4
Sanford 6-4
Price 5-11
Smith 6-2

they are not taller than our guards, let alone towering over our forwards. We were many things, but short was not one of them. Our roster is actually fairly tall, long and athletic

Ohio State's guards:

Smith Jr 6-4
Craft 6-2
Scott 6-1
Della Valle 6-5 (averages 12 minutes / game)

I don't think either of these teams has particularly tall guards

looking at our game vs dayton..hard to see how we lost this one. 17/20 from ft line, our starting 5 outscored theirs..but their bench demolished ours lol.

Are you watching the game on mushrooms or something?
It would explain a lot.

One thing to notice (unless you are 60+ and thus still stuck in the 1960s) is just how BUFFED you are going to see guys over the next 2 weeks. So many of these guys are 6-5 to 6-8 and just ripped. It helps in so many ways in the modern game. STINKS for their ability to play mid range but great when needing to play thorugh contact, draw fouls, hold position in the post when isoloated, etc, etc. etc. etc.

A bunch of my frustration (other than being a bitter, sad, mean and irritable guy - shockster nailed it) is when I turn on the tube in March and see the difference between how our guys look and then how teams like Dayton and OSU look in respect to sheer physicality.

That's a good point, and a big reason that I have a lot of hope for Bird. I thought Wallace made big strides in bulking up this year versus last year, and I think he is a much more physical player now. Now he needs to work on his shot and developing consistency.

If Bird can make similar progress in the weight room this off season, I think it could do wonders for his confidence level and his game. And I think Bird's ceiling is much higher. Getting bigger and stronger, allowing him to play more physically and with more confidence, should do wonders for him. Time for Scott Thom to work his magic with Bird . . .

Concur. Frankly, since I am not in the Bay Area and I can't see Bay Area hoops in person I was SHOCKED (tm) in how underbuilt Jabari was for such a highly recruited kid. But it looks like his body can take the weight. Really for him to get to the next level he is going to need to do that - and since he has that as a goal and seems like a hard worker I have every expectations that he does. I feel the same way about Mathews. _IF_ they develop out and we get help they have a good chance of being VERY good come Junior year. We just need to find a front line player (or 2) who can hold the rebounding numbers in check and key breaks for them to slash and penetrate.

They look unprepared. Pitt doubles the post against weak post passers and traps ball screens. It's vintage Howland ball on D. What did Boyle tell his guys? They're playing really soft.

Even Utah Valley looked physically stronger than our Bears. Justin almost looked malnourished next to them. Who is our strength coach again?

Remain deeply confused why Howland has not found employment.

intense game dayton up by 1 20 sec to go..OSU ball. OSU fouls a 3 pt shooter, Dayton guy steps up and nails all 3 calmly.

edit:
now craft hits driving layup. 10 sec to go..dayton ball.

Yeah - I wonder where he wants to go. I remember and interview talking about him enjoying fishing up in I think Montana/Wyoming but haven't read anything since. I honestly believe in the right environment ( a place where you could sell hard noised defense) he would be great.

Pitt dominating Colorado 46-18 at half. Hard to imagine us doing any better. We should be glad that we get to regain some confidence in the NIT.

That was my thought, hard to see us getting by Pitt, though it might have been closer.

Colorado might have been the worst at-large team in the dance, about a possession better than Cal. They're just not very good without Dinwiddie
But hey I just saw The Cal script on my screen, reminiscing about 5-12 upsets past.

Cincy's half-court fundamentals are horrible but they're somehow stilll in it oddly because Harvard can't shoot.
Go Harvard! Fight fiercely!

Tommy A at Harvard now has the same number of tournie wins as Monty does at Cal. Roll that one into a Monster thread and smoke it.

Tommy never even made dance at Michigan I don't think. Go figure.
Now to root on the Ducks, followed by a long shower to wash off the stench. Sometimes it's better when your brackets blow early so you can actually root for teams you want to win.
