Haven't seen this before. Nothing groundbreaking though. Some mention of offensive philosophy.

not impressed (no sarcasm intended). I would take him in a hearbeat if we were coming off consecutive Pac-12 Champioships and deep runs in the NCAA. He just hasn't been an assistant on very good teams to indicate he is ready to be the head guy and lead us to the Sweet 16/conference championship.

Whether or not he is good would not be determined necessarily by how we have done. That's Monty's team. I wouldn't overly give Travis credit if we went to the Final Four, and I wouldn't overly give him blame for not making the NCAAs. There's so much an assistant can do or say, esp. with a legendary figure of Monty always hovering.

Agreed. Unless we are going to hire a "homerun" candidate (i.e. Smart), I will be more happy with DeCuire than the UCI guy or some other no-name candidate. I like his philosophy as stated, I am confident he knows his Xs and Os from coaching with Monty, the players like him, he obviously doesn't have a huge ego, he will be hungry and put in the hours (especially recruiting) to prove himself. His recruiting for himself as head coach will be light years ahead of his recruiting for Monty as head coach (he will have the relationship with the recruits and their parents).

Internal assistants that have taken over were assistants on sucessful teams (Ollie at UCONN, Pastner at Memphis). Otherwise, it is WAY TOO RISKY and can set our program back. I'm like to see a couple of the guys retained under a new staff (Something Dykes should have done)

Recruiting contacts work in favor of Travis and I believe in the mind of Monty can only build up what they have already accomplished.

Not at all. Monty, Travis, Gregg, and John Montgomery are not good recruiters.

That's a rather strong 'blanket' statement, based on what?
I've enjoyed what Monty has accomplished at Cal and begrudgingly acknowledge his success over there on the farm. But it took him years to build that program to its ultimate level. Why? Maybe he just is not a great closer despite the efforts of Travis to set the table for him. (Excluding Gregg and John since the focus is on TD.) Or maybe TD and Monty were slightly off on their targets and didn't get into the homes of true potential Cal candidates instead of the dumb azzes as caddy1 always references. I don't know the answers but by the accounts I'm reading TD seems like a good solid recruiter.

No matter how great the assistant is at recruiting, ultimately the kids know they are going to play (or not play) for the head coach. Monty was great at many things, but wooing 18 year olds was not one of them.
Our current players say great things about DeCuire. Add another solid recruiter like Dennis Gates to the mix and I am sure recruiting will become a strength instead of a weakness.

Dennis Gates is already doing fine where he is, if he leaves I would think its to a HC job or same position at a higher tier school or NBA. I don't see him coming to Cal for anything less than HC, just don't think it's a valid career move.

Well then I hope we are interviewing him for the HC job.
