We complained about Wallace on Sunday for shooting with his off hand and free throws even though he was the reason we won. Tonight the announcing crew was raving about him using the off hand which we know we in response to the comments on this board.

Then tonight complaining about Singer, even though he has 7 points, 5 boards, 4 assists and 3 steals. He shot same percentage and had same amount of turnovers as Chauca.

At some point whether we are playing our best or not we are just going to have to enjoy watching these guys and loving when they win. This team is 6-1 and we won tonight without Bird against a Montana team that while isnt that great might not be awful either.

Go Bears!! Loved Singer and Wallace and all the guys tonight!!

Our team plays hard and will continue to improve. Cuonzo is doing a great job in getting minutes for a lot of guys.

+1. I am beginning to see how irritating negabears can be. Lets save the complaining till we LOSE and lets remember these are student athletes. Frustration should be directed at the coaches (if you are frustrated) a lot more than at the kids.

I reserve the right to complain about my feed to the game, which was repeatedly and severely affected by the storm. But, like the bears, it came thru golden in the end, I got to see from 12 min left in 2nd half on just fine.
As for players and/or coaches, I got nothing to complain about. Keep up the good work, men.

I usually stay away from this forum, especially during and right after games. It's actually worse than the football forum, which is hard to believe. But it makes sense. First, there are fewer active posters here, so a few negative voice really stand out. But more importantly, many more people played basketball, and continue to play basketball, and so there are far more "experts". Third, it's a lot easier to see what's going on in basketball than football, so thus easier to offer actual criticism (as opposed to football, where most can only offer that someone sucks, but can't say exactly why).

But it's disheartening and it allows me no place to enjoy discussing Cal basketball. I think people need to realize that this is college basketball. Most of our guys won't end up in the NBA. And then they need to realize that this is basketball - turnovers happen, missed shots happen a LOT, etc. It is the nature of the game. It really feels like some fans are expecting perfection, which is quite ridiculous.

Well, I can't watch a game like that and then speak nothing but positives about everyone because that would be crappy analysis of the game itself. The team barely squeaked out a win at home against an opponent that USF beat by 19, and USF lost by 17 to Colorado and got smoked by South Carolina St. and FGCU. The offense was disjointed, the defense wasn't good until backs were to the wall, the turnovers were absurd, and the team was lucky to win. That's two ragged efforts in a row against two bad teams. Yeah, winning is better than losing but I'm looking for improvement at this point and the last few games I'm not seeing much. I understand there's a new system and some players playing extended minutes for the first time, but the only positives I saw in this game were Chauca being better than expected, the team finding a way to get a W, and the W. There's no need to rip on individual players too much (no one played particularly well), but sugar-coating that performance is just ignoring reality.

You do realize we had 41 minutes from a FROSH playing his FIRST college game after sitting a month and david was in foul trouble for a big chunk of the game? Plus this is going to be a different style of basketball than Monty's. Martin wants them attacking a LOT more than crankypants did and given that I would expect the TOs to go up. They were down initially because of some quirks in scheduling.

What bothers me is the extreme negativity about some of our players, especially during the heat of the moment. Maybe each of us should imagine that it is our son out there before we post such comments. I have no idea whether the players read this board, but perhaps we should imagine that they do. Moreover, it is possible to be critical without being toxic. I have said things I regret, too.

Mathews disagrees. He sugar coated this W for you and the rest of us with his ice in veins 3 with 16 secs left in regulation when it would have been all too easy to choke. He hit another huge corner 3 just to make sure we all were able to get to sleep last night. Kravish was THE MAN in the middle with 6 points in 2OT to seal the win. Oh, you didn't like that from the former also-ran 180 pound recruit?
Sorry you missed the show. These guys are growing up in front of eyes!

I keep reminding myself that this board lacks the visual cues that we would share if we were all standing together in person. Although the usernames help a bit, you still can't see the stupid people and hear the squeaky-silly voices that helps us ignore or laugh at certain sources. It reminds me of the scene from the Holy Grail where the pythons are trying the witch (and Sir Benevere uses the brilliant duck-weight methodology). Sometimes when I get frustrated by the weight of the negabears, I picture a kindergarten playground and just smile.

I agree with you Bearprof and I would say that since you can access the board, without a membership, I assume the players do read our comments.

At the end of the season we should print out the nastiest digs and get the players to read them for the camera ala Jimmy Kimmel's Mean Tweets.

Negabears aren't confined to the Board. The guy who sits next to me (who admittedly knows squat about basketball) was complaining all game, "Why is Singer in there? He can't do anything. Every time Matthews handles the ball, he turns it over. He's useless. Why does Wallace drive--he just gets in trouble when he does." He opined that Wallace should never bring the ball up court because walking it up "tires him out." But Matthews shouldn't because he turns it over, and Singer is no good and shouldn't be in there. He was electing Chauca until he made a turnover and said, "Why is he bringing it up the court.?" Finally, I asked him, since he's eliminated all of our guards if he thought the offense should be instigated by Okoroh?

I think that guy sits behind me! Nice guy, but non-stop negative player remarks. Its like every mistake personally cuts into his skin. Even when someone makes a good play, the best he can say is "Finally! Now, why can't so-and-so do that just once". I called him on it last year - and he said "What? I don't say anything during the game". His wife (also very nice - who rarely says anything) looks at him dryly and says "Are you F%@#ing kidding me?" We all laughed very hard and then he brought my daughter a soda. He is forever remembered as that "nice-crazy guy".

****. My dad was resurrected and he hasn't called yet. Shows you the priority he placed on us compared to cal sports. My dad's favorite line after an opposing team got a first down when cal was up by three TDs was "Oh here they go. We will blow this." Sad part is that often he was correct. We also nicknamed Mark McNamara for his inexplicable tendency to get an O board and bring it down (only to have it stripped) "Lummox". BB - could have been your wife as a young co-ed who turned to my dad and said "that is not nice". But it was sorta true.....Not getting MM to run steps every time he wouldn't just keep it up was a coaching fail.

Singer just signed off of twitter, saying he needed to mute the negativity
Now, I'm not saying anyone here is tweeting to him, but bottom line is comments made on forums like this do get back to players

If I was a college basketball player, I'd go offline too
