7-0, 6-10 and 6-10. Listening to the post-game show uncle Teddy was bemoaning the 15% shooting average in the first half, which got them a grand total of 15 points. Final score 49-36. Nice first conference game opponent.

They are in the rankings now at #17 so it's entirely possible they'll still be when we play. A good test and measuring stick in the first game out of the gate in conference play.

This is the biggest surprise result of he season so far. Didn't seem like a fluke, didn't seem like an "Aztecs must be overrated" kind of game. Huskies were good, certainly defensively good.

Watched much of this game. UW was impressive. Kemp and the Fresno transfer Upshaw are the real deal. Very big, strong humans who play physically. Upshaw was a force on defense, effectively neutralizing SDSUs inside game. UWs point guard was solid as well.

Good win for the P12. I think the matchup early with Cal and UW will be interesting. We're stronger at guard and along the perimeter and more skilled and better shooters. They have the beef inside and are athletic. Romar is coaching for his job.

Kemp came in as a physical, but raw basketball player
but after four years, he's a solid player, and because he's so physical, is tough on defense

UW has done a good job of signing some athletic but raw players ('projects'), and then coaching them up to be solid role players (although not stars) by their junior or senior years

Given our performance against a tall and talented Texas team, UW should be a tough game.

It's really a different type of team than what Romar usually has. Length and size with Kemp and Upshaw, perimeter play not as dominant. SDSU really struggles from the perimeter, which played into UW's hands.

I agree Tsubamoto - I think we can potentially fare better than SDSU given our strengths but no doubt Upshaw and Kemp will be a load for us. Romar needs to keep Upshaw eligible and he needs to stay healthy. His best teams were often sandwich teams. Start off hot early with better talent then as opponents gel and improve, they struggle and finally Romar catches up around P12 and NCAA tourney.

Upshaw has been the key. He looked like a bit of a stretch off his history but has blown up as a low post defender allowing Kemp to play second banana effectively. Williams-Goss is a really good PG who can score but this team doesn't have the scoring punch that UW usually puts on the floor. Some of this result reflects SDS' weakness as they also had problems with Utah's size in a narrow win and Arizona's in a loss.

This is the type of lineup that I argued for in the past (under Braun) when our strength was depth on the front line.

I think Devon Hardin, Ryan Anderson, Jamal Boykin, Patrick Christopher and Jerome Randle (with Harper Kamp and Jordan Wilkes off the bench) is a great lineup that would cause teams all kinds of match-up problems (especially with Randle's and Anderson's three point shooting).

Instead we played Randle, Knezevich, Vierniesal, Anderson and Hardin and then benched Hardin and played Randle, Knezevich, Vierneisal, Boykin and Anderson went 17-16 finishing 2nd to last.

Braun recruited huge (and talented/athletic) front lines and then went small, even if he had to play walk-ons and less talented smaller players to do it.

How are Kemp and Upshaw looking offensively? If they still need work perhaps Cal could go at them with some small ball.

This. I wouldn't (yet) annoit the Huskies. SDSU is REALLY bad offensively. They play good defensively but I am not expecting them to be as good as in years past unless something changes and changes fast for the Aztecs.
