Interesting development. There have been a lot of guys offered in the last few days according to verbalcommits. I'm wondering who our biggest targets are for 2016.
Here is my guess:
1. Jaylen Brown
2. Ivan Rabb
Keeping these two would be awesome and seems like our best case scenario.
Actual 2016 recruits:
1. Johnson
2. Montgomery-DeLaurier
3. Lightfoot
4. Ramsey/Pritchard
5. Jackson
6. Ford
7. Killeya-Jones

I don't know anything about anything, this might just be my wish list. I kind of think DeLaurier might already be taken, but he sounds like he belongs at Cal.

He reminds me a bit of Jason Kidd in the way his body moves, his mannerisms, even his looks a bit.

agree

plays with so much control
he plays fast, but does not rush
he plays with purpose
he doesn't make a mad rush to get into the paint, and then not know what he's going to do when he gets there
reminds me of AZ's senior PG last year, who I felt was the best PG in the conference

Reminds me more of Jason Williams than Jason Kidd.

Kidd was more strong than quick.

Was Wyking recruiting him while at Louisville?

Very PF and PG heavy list. Some really good options, but with Frayer taking Wallace's ride, you've got 7 guys plus Jollly chasing 1-3 open slots. Lots of juggling and guys with other attractive options who will have to hold out for Cal until the late signing period with no guarantee there's even a spot for them.

I agree he is quicker flashier than Kidd, but where he dribbles and his movements do really look like Kidd in college. I don't mean same player, just looks like him how he runs, holds his head, and even looks away with the one arm pass into the key--he even has the pretzel shot.

Kidd was strong, quick, and fast. Look at his Cal film, again. Just a unique athlete.

Kidd did come to mind when I saw Pritchard a while back. I don't see White Chocolate in him because Pritchard is more efficient in his movements, sort of like Kidd was, not flashy like J-Will. J-Will, as exciting as he was, was a street-baller playing organized basketball.

He looks about 2/3 as comfortable dribbling with his right hand.

And yet he shoots right handed, which to me, implies he is right handed by nature. Strong left hand and lefty passing. Tough to defend because he can go and pass either way. You can't 'cheat' and try to take away a preferred side.

That is right. His left handed dribbling is outstanding. No problem with his right handed dribbling either, it is just that he mostly uses his left to set up a left to right crossover dribble into a right handed shot. While like HoopDreams I first thought of TJ McConnell because of his tight control and vision, his outside shooting and one handed passes off the dribble with both hands reminds me of Steph Curry. (I know he is not as good or complete, it is just some similar elements.)

Just for fun:

I wonder if he decommitted from Oklahoma because he is blowing up.

His parents are Oklahoma alums, likely the reason an Oregon kid would commit there in the first place. My guess is he got cold feet for whatever reason. He's probably the 3rd best PG in the West after Lonzo Ball and Frank Jackson (more of a combo guard).

That is specifically what I was referring to. Some of it is how he and Kidd both bend at the waist a bit, head down but eyes up, when dribbling up the floor on the break. Some of it is the moves to get off a shot, and even the way he finishes over perhaps taller and more athletic guys (though young Kidd was far more explosive than what this mixtape showed Pritchard to be).

Agreed. The way he dribbles and moves (and his shaved head and physical build) do remind me of Kidd. Wonder what shot we have at him.

Yeah and being third after those two is not too shabby. Can't wait to watch Ball at ucla. Hopefully Jackson does not go to Stanford though. Looks like Duke.

Payton Pritchard looks good and a pg that Cal need once Ty leaves. His court vision is good at 2.16 2.54 4.00 marks. He reminds me a bit of Aaron Craft.

Any other white PG comparisons out there? I think we forgot about Ridnour. :p C'mon get with the cross-racial player comparisons people!

Reminds me of Mike Conley.

Hmmm, he isnt fast and he isnt quick (Quicker than Jason Kidd? -ahahahahahahaha). He's playing against bad defense and constantly dribbles in and out of trouble (balls on the ground too much). His passes look good but its a highlight reel. He also seems like he has a high basketball IQ but everything he has Chauca has. He's the white Chauca. I don't know if that's good or bad. I know everyone in the country is offering him and you guys seem sold but......

Anyway, this is a Football school. Can he tote the rock?

He's not a top tier athlete, but that's why he's in the Top-50 range or so and projects as a 4-year player. He's a true PG with the ability to get into the lane and shoot the 3. What's not to like?

Payton Pritchard NBA top 100 camp mixtape

Pritchard has led his HS team to 3 consecutive State titles and was the Oregon State Player of the Year last season. He led his squad to a win over Jaylen Brown's Wheeler HS team (ranked No.2 nationally at the time) last season and a win over Jahlil Okafor's Whitney Young HS team (Illinois State Champs in 2013-14) as a sophomore.

I like Chauca more than some on here seem to, but what Chauca doesn't have is the extra 4 inches of height. That makes a big difference.

Being a proven winner is huge for a point guard....I don't think Chauca ever stayed in one school long enough to prove his ability to win consistently....this kid is a WINNER period...

I was so intrigued by his mixtape that I watched him at the U18 3 on 3 world championships. Which was really fun. In other countries 17-year-olds are already pros, which I assume the US opponents were, because they were very good. 3 on 3 is not regular basketball but skills do come through as well as frequency of outcomes. On the plus side, his handles were unbelievable, and his timing and vision were excellent. Compared to the mixtape, his shooting was more erratic (no surprise), though the form looks good. On the down side, his one-on-one defense was poor. On the mixtape it was clear that he can't jump, but he was also a little slower than ideal. Nevertheless, I think he would have a good shot to become an all-pac12 player, while Chauca is not someone who should get on the court. Comparing the two makes no sense.

very nice player. Under control with an excellent handle and court vision. Shoots it nicely for a PG and works in and through the lane with confidence. the only knock is he's not a high level athlete. but he's damn good.

Good questions, it was just an offer. It would make more sense to be focusing on Jordan Ford, at least right now.

Chauca has given us no reason to think he will be more than an emergency player
