I just certified Ivan Rabb as a great basketball player

but you already knew that

However, although I'd followed Ivan during his high school play, watched his State Championship game, his all-star games, his games in Australia, and early season games, it wasn't until tonight that I certified him as great

I had earlier made a conclusion about his rebounding (he had 9 boards vs a very big and athletic frontline), but now I know he is the complete package

Scoring...did you see his post move? what footwork!
Defense...he learned how to stay vertical in such a short time, and was still effective with his post defense, and still blocked shots
Hoops IQ...everyone could see it, but the competition was suspect. Against SD State he continued to impress
Passing...great passer...
Mid-range shooting...nice to see him hit that shot. he obviously likes that shot, although I think he won't need to shoot so many of those as he gets stronger. Right now we aren't getting him the ball in the low block often enough
Free Throw shooting...missed two and-ones, but has great form and looks extremely consistent. I think he will shoot FTs with a strong percent this season
Leadership ...love his on-court demeanor ... calm, cool, yet fiery player

Good post. Agree on all accounts. I especially agree we need to get some plays in there to isolate him on the block. It would be interesting to have the ball come from Mathews who could size up a three if the defense doubles Ivan.

I also feel like we need to get into our offense quicker. The shorter shot clock is pushing us to take bad shots.

Rabb is the only guy on our team with an advanced feel for the game. The other guys do things that make you shake your head and wince.

Agree with everything except the low block part. He hasn't been getting the ball in the low block because he is having trouble establish position down there.

Who cannot root for Cal and not love Rabb?

His up and under post move astounded me, as I have only seen him at Cal and thought he did not have that sort of deep post move. Great to see.

As a billion here have already noted, he has to get the ball more, perhaps being the point man on this team at the 5!

Go Bears!

Yes. Seems like the game is not that fast for him, even as a freshman. You would think the athletic, quick, physical SDSU defense would get him off his game. Nope.

A good thought: Bogut is as close to a PG in the Warriors half-court sets as they have; but he doesn't have the offensive talent that Ivan has (at least anymore - I never saw him back in the day). I'm assuming that Ivan can learn those skills that make Bogut such a great distributor in the half-court. I see no reason not to. But I imagine it will take some work, from this point, both for Ivan and the team.

Ivan clearly is the most efficient player on our team.

Taking this last game as an example, as it is the only game against a high level D-1 team, Rabb scores 18 on 10 shot attempts, Tyrone 16 on 18 shot attempts, Matthews 10 on 13 shot attempts.

Whether or not he plays more of a point-center position, the ball has to come to him more frequently.
