I've never seen a player get that high on dunk in Haas before
plus it was over their center who was trying to stop him
top dunk ever for Cal

Speaking of dunks, glad these two guys are out of the conference:

Lamond Murray with an alley oop at Harmon, south basket, pass from kid. Kidd threw the ball in a southeast direction about 12 feet high, seemingly throwing it away, but Murray somehow catches it and throws it down. Anyone else remember? Don't remember but maybe against Stanfurd?

The best dunk by a former Cal player was KJ on Hakeem in the playoffs.

I thought Gordon's dunk was better, more creative, and more difficult

The Buckley dunk from the right wing right over a guy that I remember was at Stanford on the bouncy floor they had. Shocked the hell out of me.

Jaylen's was awesome but the best one was Roy Fisher vs. Villanova on a Saturday night - think it was 1989.

To paraphrase Bum Phillips talking about Earl Campbell..."I don't know if it is in a class by itself, but when they get that class together it don't take long to call the roll."

Check his head at the apex...even with the rim or just short.

There are a lot of great parts to that dunk but watch Mathews reaction to the dime he throws to set Brown up. Nice head pump on that one. Silky.

Awesome interview. Great to see Jaylen smile. He looks so serious at times.

I remember one very memorable Monty Buckley dunk on a fast break from the right wing... can't remember if it was at Haas/Harmon or not.

Dude Monty was a baller, getting dimes from Jason all the time. Loved that guy.

Jalylen interviews well and comes off as a bright and likable person. But during games he's a stoic.

Lamond Murray's dunk against Furd was awesome partly due to the fact no one saw it coming.

Gordon's dunk last night taking the ball from the mascot and going under his legs may be the best dunk I've ever seen at a dunk contest.

I'm pretty sure Bird actually assisted Brown on the dunk.

Can't resist: Hartmut Ortman at Harmon. Missed the dunk, but threw it so hard that it bounced off the rim into the 10th row of stands along the sideline.

I remember that play mostly because he took 4 steps to get to the rim. Most egregious traveling no-call I've ever seen. I think the refs must have been laughing too hard to blow a whistle.

It was Bird. Bird's tomahawk dunk just a few minutes earlier was no slouch. Of course is reverse jam v. Oregon maybe 1B to Jaylen's 1A.

Was the interview posted somewhere - would love to see it. His complete lack of visible emotion after that dunk was borderline hilarious. Never want to play poker with that dude.

Edit.

You are right and suddenly reminds me why I don't understand the complaints about the high shot when I watch the game on my 58 inch monster in my man cave but how I didn't see where the pass came from on my tiny little computer screen.

Socal - you may need a 70 inch HDTV. Mathews is about near half court when Bird makes the pass to Brown. Oh now I see you edited.

Probably not a popular choice but Russell Westbrook's dunk at Haas was, sadly, pretty epic.

been watching a lot of cal youtube highlights in the past day....

thought this one had some particularly great dunks (yeah a couple of just dirty ones by that az dude):

To be honest, I'm not sure Haas/Cal Basketball is back to that 2004 level of sustained excitement.

also, leon powe was a grown ass man....

This seems like the perfect subject for a poll: "Best dunk ever by a Cal player." Seems like most of the likely candidates have been mentioned.

Not by a Cal player, but Andre Iguodala threw one down against us on a crowded fast break that just took my breath away.

Years ago, in Harmon, Marques Johnson threw down a tomahawk in the half court set that briefly left everybody wondering if they really had just seen what they saw. I wanna say it was his senior year. North basket. He drives, everybody expects to see him try and lay it in, then suddenly realizes he's going to dunk it, then he pulls it back right before he slams it for added emphasis. Crowd went silent, except for gasps.

Among Cal players, as someone mentioned, Roy Fisher was the first Cal player I remember with a number of impressive dunks. What was the name of that white guy, 6-4 PG, who slammed one down left-handed his freshman or sophomore year, then slowly faded into oblivion. He was supposedly one of the guys that Campanelli "ruined". Dude's name is on the tip of my tongue...

I still think Monty's against Stanfurd at Maples was the best I've ever seen. Roy's most exciting because we had never seen a Cal player do that.

In my opinion, Tyrone's dunk tonite on Senior Night comes close to beating out Brown's dunk.

I think it's a tie (no pun intended) -- both are worthy. But since it was Ty's senior day (as opposed to Jaylen's one and done day), tiebreaker goes to Ty.
haas_sitter
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Ty's dunk was awesome, but he didn't explode as high as Jaylen and didn't have a 6-10 Center violently trying to push him away from the basket. Tyrone was barely touched on the play. Still got me out of my seat, but not comparable in my book.

Hmm let's compare the two beauties:

http://pac-12.com/videos/highlight-jaylen-browns-monster-dunk-seals-win-cal

http://pac-12.com/videos/highlight-cals-tyrone-wallace-throws-it-down-over-uscs-nikola-jovanovic

Yah Brown went through 6' 9" Schaftenaar, but not directly over - Schaft got schafted because he came from the side and he didn't have an angle (a lay in would have worked too). Nikola is 6'11" and was coming to provide help defense, but Ty just blew by him while in the air. Both were athletic as all getout. I guess one would prefer Jaylen's if dunking through some contact is the principle metric.
R90
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Jaylen's took more hops as he leapt from outside the key and went over/through Shaftenaar.
Ty's took more skill, delaying until he'd gone by Jovanovic and then keeping that long right arm extended to finish.
I'd vote for Ty, based on the skill factor.
