One good statistical measure is effective FG% on offense and effective FG% against on defense.

Offensively, we're the 70th ranked team in terms of eFG%. There are 351 D1 teams, thus we're a top 20% offensive team. That puts us 3rd behind Utah (10th) and Arizona (25th) in the Pac 12.

Defensively, we're sixth overall. As high as I can ever remember a Cal team being. Tops BY FAR in the Pac 12

One thing that makes me excited for the tourney is that defense travels, and Pac 12 refs do not.

Has a long ways to go in creating a good offensive system.

CHF, do you know where to find stats on team offensive and defensive efficiency (i.e., points per possession)?

Okay, if we do well in the tourney, LETS MAKE THIS BE THE THEME TO OUR SUCCESS.

Show up at the Sweet 16 onward wearing shirts and waving signs saying:
"Pac12 refs don't travel. Defense Does. Go Bears!"

Hmmm only one problem, we only have one win away from home.

Except that we have two wins away from home. But who's counting?

The problem is that Cal's defense hasn't traveled all that well. Here's hoping last Thursday was the start of a new trend.

Actually, the only road or neutral site game this season where our opponent shot > 45%FG was at Utah, which shot about 48%. We've held every other opponent under 45%. Maybe not elite defensively like we are at Haas, but decent.

I'd say our offense has been the biggest culprit in our road struggles. We've struggled to get good scoring opportunities, which is evident in the low assist rates on the road and we've turned it over more frequently on the road. We simply had not been efficient enough offensively to account for the disadvantage of playing away from home.

Okay, the defense hasn't traveled in relation to how it performs at home. Much of the offensive woes can also be attributed to the failure to get stops and all the additional fouls they pick up on the road.
