not as much fun as one would think ...
From interview with former WSU player Brock Motum who is now teammate of Jerome ...
"How have you found the transition to living in Europe once again, and in particular, in Lithuania?
The first time [I played in Europe] was obviously a little tougher, when I was in Italy, just being by myself and all of that. This is my third year playing pro now, so you just get it. When you’re over here by yourself, you’ve got a network of other players that you either play with or have been on the same team as that you keep in touch with, because when you’re on a different time zone, it’s hard to talk to friends and family back home (either) during the day or a night-time when you’re regularly texting your friends. That’s been a big thing — guys that I played with who are still playing overseas, I’ve become closer to them because you form a little brotherhood, I guess.
It’s been good… other than the weather!
That was one of my next questions.
Around Christmas time it got down to like -25 or -26 [degrees Celsius], which is like a 50-degree difference to Brisbane. Maybe 60-ish. Middle of summer [at home] and middle of winter here, it’s a bit different, man. Especially compared to this time in Adelaide last year.
I lived in Toronto for about a year, and it was a similar sort of thing. They had their worst winter on record in 40 years, and had an ice storm. They just had All-Star Weekend there, too, and everyone was whinging about -25, -30, and how cold it was.
It’s one thing to whinge about, but it’s another thing to actually feel it, because it’s not a joke. You can’t even enjoy yourself because you’re too busy concentrating on how to stay warm."
