How long do you want to ignore this user?
A couple of weeks ago I'm driving back to Berkeley and stop off in Orinda to get gas. As I'm standing there I realize that the guy on the other side of the pump is Stephen Curry. I wasn't going to bother him, but he was staring right at me so I thanked him for making pro basketball fun to watch. He thanks me with a 'sir' no less and we go on our ways.

When I told my 30 year old son about this he's beside himself -- "You didn't get a picture??!!"

Actually never occurred to me, but if it had I wouldn't have asked. He probably gets enough intrusion in his life.

Am I off base here?

You did the right thing.

You not only did the right thing, you made the perfect comment to him. He and the Warriors have restored some artistry to a game that had retreated into brute force.

Pictures are overrated. One of my son's twenty-something friends chided me with "It didn't really happen if there's no pic". We then discussed at length the value of actual experience and practicing good story-telling vs simply monitoring and reporting on the event. After many beers and stories of adventures without pics - he agreed that his generation is troubled and that the Kardashians are to blame

Ludwig - I like your story much better than just another selfie that has no soul.

You did a nice job but it would have been so cool if you did get a photo with him. A friend had a similar situation a couple of years ago. Steph was gracious to take photos with her boys. Apparently was a super nice guy.

You were classy and did the right thing. I think people in the spotlight appreciate that. They are certainly fawned over enough. I recall being with this guy at a New Years Eve dinner some years ago and we were commiserating about the antics of our teenaged sons. He asked what I did. I told him. I asked him what he did. It was Beau Bridges. He absolutely loved it at the time. My family and staff wanted to kill me for being so dumb.

Several houses on my childhood block lined a golf club fairway. My all time sports hero Willie Mays was a member and as kids we would watch him tee off a few times every year. Once you got his autograph, the novelty wore off. Willie was incredibly kind and patient with all the neighborhood kids.

I agree. You did the right thing.

At a Cal vb match last fall, I was sitting 2nd row up at the end line, and Ivan Rabb came in to watch, sitting in front of me..... he was sitting next to a mom of a middle school girl who was very much enjoying the vb. After Ivan moved elsewhere after the first game, I mentioned to the mom who he was.
She was so excited wishing she had taken a foto. I noted to her that probably Ivan has only one year here, and likely wants to 'enjoy being a student' as much as he can in one year, and not have a camera in his face everytime he turns around while on campus.

It IS odd whenever we run into famous people, but at the end of the day, who cares. They are just people, too.

The only guy I'm glad to have asked for a photo is Manute Bol, and that's because he's simply so huge that I wanted to have that for ever more.

I've seen Hillary in passing, Jerry Rice at SFO, Steve Garvey at SD airport (was putting his daughters on a plane, at the time of his paternity suit), Newman from Seinfeld, Irv Cross was on a flight once. I've ridden an elevator with Francois Mitterand at the Ritz in Madrid - that was hilarious in retrospect.

One time Ronny Lott got into MY elevator (if you work there for years, it becomes YOURS) at 120 Kearny St., and I was chatting with my buddy and just continued with the sentence, "Well, Ronnie Lott, what the hell are you doing here?" My friend burst out laughing, and Ron shook our hands. The escort business lady he was with just smiled. I regretted not asking to see the missing finger!

Okay, so two times I made mention. If I ever see anyone else, I leave them be. No, that's not true. I ran into Harper Kamp and Theo at a St. Mary's-Cal women's soccer game once, and I did go down and start chatting. They were youngins then, so I figured the attn was no big deal.

I remember when I was young..Went to an A's/Baltimore game that the A's won. Following the game, a bunch of kids were waiting outside the Coliseum (not that stupid O.co name they have now ;p). Baltimore had lost the game but kids being kids...Eddie Murray walked past the group of kids..one of the kids asked for his autograph. Murray tells the kid to "get the f' away from me"...kids dad wasn't far off and actually chased Murray to his car. He got in and drove away fast lol. That was a great memory. My favorite guys i've met though had to be Dave Stewart and Willie McGee...oh and George Forman...he was amazing. Biggest hands I've ever seen. Could of been an NFL QB.

Was having dinner at Tadich's in SF in the late '90s. There was a guy with a earpiece outside at the entrance, so I figured someone important was there. Noticed four or five other obvious security guys inside. Furdette Chelsea Clinton and a few friends were eating there. Cracked me up a few years later when UT freshmen Jenna Bush got popped for underaged drinking in Austin. Literally everyone knew who she was, how old she was, plus she likely had a half dozen secret service agents with her.

Speaking of the Clintons, one of my buddies regular interacted with future Secretary of State Dennis Rodman, whose attorney worked at his firm. "How many 6'8" guys with pink hair wearing feather boas do you think we have roaming the halls"?

BS. I would have directed the gas at him and lit him on fire.

Go Lakers.

I would have told Curry that if any real Ws fans saw him pump his own gas they'd stop him and do it for him, pay for the damn gas, because MY GOD HE MIGHT HURT HIMSELF AND THAT WOULD DESTROY LIVES IN THE BAY AREA!!!

Yeah I'm kidding. I saw Marshawn Lynch the other day in Oakland near his store. Said hey, waved. He gave a half wave back. The plates on his Lambo read: AOK5555.

What store does he have?
I did see his house on the water (via google earth). Interesting.

Oh, you remind me. The Redskins had a mean ass All Pro LB or DE in about 1990 and I was driving my POS jetta diesel by Tyson's Corner and this black lamborghini was revving his engine behind me to get me out of the way. There was thick traffic and I thought, Suck It Fella and just kept doing my thing to stay in the stop n go. He finally got an opening to go by me, and did so, only to hit his breaks again. As he passed, dude glared at me. It was Dexter Manley. I laughed.

Oh, Paul Westhead passed my ass in his Mustang out by George Mason University. He was definitely breaking the speed limit.

He opened a BeastMode store in Oakland. Have a coworker who stopped by and Marshawn was chillin in the shop, she didn't see the lambo around though.

Beatmode is on Broadway, between 8th and 9th St.

There's a parking lot behind his store on 8th. That's where I saw his Lambo.

You said exactly what I wish I would have the composure to say. I have had trouble watching basketball the last xx years after growing up a fan of all sports. The Warriors are indeed fun to watch. And from all reports all of the Warriors are good people. That is refreshing.
Well done Ludwig.

Last spring. During the Western Conferen Finals, I ran into Draymond Green at a gas station on Oakland. My kid was with me. Dray was more than happy to take a pic with my son. I wished him well, thanked him, and made sure to tell him to say Go Bears to Theo - he laughed and said he would!
