Cal's lone freshman member of the 2016 recruiting class talks about the recruiting process when he committed to Memphis State and switched up to Cal, how his transition has been going and more on his Front Page story and video interview: http://bearinsider.com/news/story.php?article=2118

The serious (but relaxed) demeanor, in a "Kid", is impressive. The incoming "class" [Moore, Coleman, Lee, Mullins] is extraordinarily "mix and match"; and it does make one wonder how they relate to one another.

Maybe it's an old picture . . . but, he looks like he's 15!

It was taken last week. But we probably have better things to talk about than doubting his listed height (especially when he talks about his growth spurt after his junior year in the interview) and how he looks 15, right?

You probably also don't want to hear that Memphis hasn't been called Memphis State in over 20 years, then. It changed to University of Memphis in 1994. 😀

Actually, I do. Now that I've been reminded, I can quit referring to the program as Memphis State, especially in interviews.

Here in California, there is certainly more cache in "University of" than "somewhere State".
I think it's that way all across the county, right? Why is that?

UCSD > SDSU
USF > SFSU
Indiana > Indiana State
Oregon > Oregon State
Washington > Washington State
Michigan > Michigan State

Florida <equally suck> Florida State

Are those assumptions correct?

At least your assumption matches mine (not sure if correct). Generally, its a reflection of the respective state higher education systems. Top tier is U of X (Graduate programs & research), next tier is X State (more undergrad focus and local representation), third tier is community colleges. Then you have New York with SUNY (State University of New York) - fuggedaboudit.

Over time, some schools migrate from State to University (I think UCSB is an example).

This ranking has San Francisco State University higher than University of San Francisco: http://www.4icu.org/us/california/

USF is private though (Jesuit).

Interested to see how he pushes Singer this coming season. Also interested to see what other dimensions he can bring. Sure would be nice to develop a pick n roll combo with him and Ivan.

I imagine (without knowing anything about Mr. Moore's actual playing) that, at 5'11", the main question would be defense.

I think that's going to be the main question with all of our incoming guards regardless of size. Sam is a pretty good defender with two years in CM's program so I'm hoping he really takes a lead in pushing these guys in practice when it comes to that side of the ball.

Haven't seen his D, but considering Cuonzo wanted him before his growth spurt, I doubt it'll be a weakness. Really looking forward to seeing how our ball movement is this season, with 2 of Singer, Mullins & Moore frequently on the court together (hoping Coleman is ready to help as well).

I was referring to the specific example given--USF versus SFSU
