LOL at Brazil. How about trade Locte for that soccer guy who is wanted for corruption in the US from all the FIFA embezzlement. Wait, one is a felony, one is a misdemeanor. Yeah let's just worry about the misdemeanor right?

If I was Lochte, I'd tell the brazilians to pay for first class airfare, round trip. That way, he can finish the party.

Lochte seems like a self-absorbed tool and I would have no problem with his having to pay monetary damages for vandalism and issue another, more heartfelt, apology to the Brazilian people.

But come on. Extradition? For this? Is he going to act as witness in the prosecution of the security guard at the gas station for extortion?

I wrote when this first went down and the Judge wanted to grab their passports that Brazil was totally screwing up their tourist industry. I mean, who wants to go there and face robbery and then the police grabbing your passport and not being able to leave?

However, then I learned the truth, how the swimmers peed outside the gas station, tore down a poster, and the how the gun that was pulled was an attempt to get them to pay for their damage, which they complied and paid $50 for. Not exactly robbery, and not exactly a completely unjust request by the judge to get them to stay, correct statements dissing the Brazilians before they fled country.

But now this, where they want to carry on the fight beyond what is necessary - and it seems that Brazil is once again back to screwing up their tourist trade. No, I don't think I ever need to see the place...

Deciding who handled this better out of Brazil and Lochte is like deciding who came out on top in season 4 of The Wire between Dukie and Randy.

I don't know about Brazilian law but it seems like pretty clear robbery under US law because the guard used the threat of force to extract the money.

Pissing in bushes and tearing down a bathroom sign...seems a little excessive to be pulling guns on people...guy probably thought he'd rather handle it himself than call Brazillian police lol.

So you're suggesting that the Brazilian police find the Brazilian who brandished the weapon and charge him with the appropriate various crimes he committed that night?

Lochte should hire a lawyer, go back down there, and quit letting them make a fool out of him.

The guard was going to hold them there until the police came--a Good Samaritan who spoke English came over and negotiated a settlement. Getting arrested and spending the night in a Rio jail was always an option. $50 bucks for the damage from a night of drunken revelry in Rio with no fallout was a bargain. If the guy just kept his yap shut the next day no one would know and he would go on with his $millions in endorsements, instead he went with the "I was a victim of robbery by guys dressed as Brazilian cops" story. The Olympic Village went on lock down because of him. He only apologized for what he did that night--not for what he did the next day and following weeks. That said, extradition is a bad call by Brazil--they should try to take the high road.
