On NBA.com, a poll of NBA rookies, asked, among other things, to name the most athletic fellow rookie, showed close to 40% picking Jaylen, more than twice the percent that picked the guy who was second.

Apparently those who played against him in Las Vegas were generally more impressed by him than many Cal fans...

I don't recall any Cal fans saying Jaylen isn't athletic, do you?

It takes more than athleticism to star in the NBA. I'm interested to see how much his shooting and handle improve.

Agreed. However, Jaylen is young. Also, it appears he has had broader interests than most young basketball talents. It will be interesting to see if he now can apply himself to developing his basketball skills. If he can, he will be a special player.

Apparently, those who rooted for him in college can't tell the difference between "most athletic" and "best player."

Tells you a lot that people are defending their criticism of Jaylen.
Many Cal fans are most critical of our best players. They prefer scrappy overachievers to developing superstars.
20 years from now if someone says "Jaylen Brown was highly criticized by fans when he was at Cal" everyone will deny it and point to the fact he was named 1st Team All-Pac 12 as a freshman, he's a great representative of the university....

In case you forgot how the season ended, Brown was a non factor the last several games. Actually he was worst than that, he was a negative factor per the numbers. So obviously most fans were critical of his late play and hoped he would come back and finish what he started. Doesn't mean we didn't appreciate his season and definitely doesn't mean we prefer scrappy under the radar unathletic guys that take 3 years to develop.

I don't recall anyone doing that exactly. I believe that Calumnus is referring to is the thread on Shareef and some discussion of criticism of him while he was a freshman...

Yes, I was addressing South Bender and his original comment about JB's perceived lack of athleticism by some Cal fans.

As for Calumns thread regarding SAR, I suppose it is only natural that he would have drawn some criticisms. As great of as freshman as he was at Cal, he wasn't always perfect. I'm pretty sure that all Cal players have drawn criticisms at some point, even the blue-collar, over-achieving ones.

I certainly agree on the criticism part... and now that you mention south bender, I do recall that it was him but I thought calumn was involved as well... oh well, no biggee
