Is WSU really as bad as they looked against The Fraud?

30 point loss to fund??? I though Washington was the worse team.

UW clearly has more talent. WSU has no one to compare w/ Fultz. Whether Romar or Kent is the worse coach is open for debate. WSU has an odd line-up: 2 tall front line players (6-10 and 7-0) and 3 small guards (6-2, 6-0, 6-0). They have a team that is designed to force the ball inside since Hawkinson is their only legitimate scorer, but Kent wants to push tempo. Worst rebounding team in the Pac-12. Losing to them would really suck.

Glad there are lots of BDWs in the Pac-12.

No way we lose.
We are coming together well.
We aren't a great team, perhaps not even very good.
But we are getting contributions near and far.
I like our chances at continuing the trend overly lowly WSU.

If we don't win this one, it's on us.

I'm just puzzled that Wazzu beat UW in Seattle on New Year's Day.

But for the model to the contrary at Duke (and Stanford at times, and maybe a couple other schools), I am tempted to believe that, due to Cal's higher entrance standards, the model for success here is that set by Pete Newell, based, to a certain degree, on an athletically out-smarting and out-working the other teams who are perhaps superior on a strictly athletic basis; and it strikes me that such a culture takes some time to work up, and that the situation here is set up well for that process to build.

WSu: A young squad and a slow coach.
ASu: Ditto.

Scary that Stanford just killed these guys, and we barely squeaked by them. What gives?

Offense. Cal holds Wazzu to under 40% but can't shoot over 40% themselves. Furd shoots 54% with 18 assists on 34 FG's. Stanford got All-Conference PG play from Robert Cartwright, which makes a big difference for them.

Cal's inability to score when Bird is off and especially when both Moore and Bird are off. Right now, Cal's offense is toward the bottom of the conference.

And the return of Reid Travis.

just my opinion ernie kent is not a bad coach. his talent is not great but his team plays hard for him. we had a terrible shooting afternoon. bottom line we got the w.

They got their asses kicked after the thrashing by the furd and Bird was off. We were lucky to win. Without Ivan we are 0-4 in conference.

All this considered, I think we beat Oregon. Faster paced game will help. Plus they dont go inside much so maybe Rabb stays out of foul trouble.

Meanwhile, what's gotten into those trees. They lead UW by 19 at half

Travis Reid to the locker room in first half (injury).
Has not returned.

Stanford's lead down to 5 with 10 to go.

UW (and Fultz in particular) coming on strong in the 2nd half. Both Washington schools playing better today than Thursday

I have the game on in the background and I know Fultz has come on here in the second half, but I and not all that impressed.
He just made a running layup smoothly, but I still am not wowed.

This. I think Furd just had one of those games on Thursday night where they shot lights out. Also, WSU shot worse Thurs night than they did today at Haas. And it's not because Furd has better D than Cal. FG pct has an element of randomness to it as it varies from game to game over the course of the season.

The Furd radio guys have been talking up Cartwright the last few games as a potential budding star. Anyone have an opinion on that? I have not seen the Trees play all season, so I have no idea.
