They beat two #1 seeds. That was enough.

I don't see a case for St. Mary's at all. Their conference is obviously trash, and they can't help that. But their big OOC games were against Georgia (loss), Wazzu (loss) and Cal (lol win).

Texas, Oklahoma, and Cuse LOST TOO MANY GAMES. I'd replace two of those teams with St. Mary's and USC (Trojans I think are sweet 16 good with Metu, Radmonovic, and Jordan's lil bruh playing well)

LSJU's AD is on the selection committee. He either willingly joined in screwing the Pac-12, or he is inept and has no influence on the committee.

Number of games lost seems to be less important than number of games won vs quality opponents. Texas and Oklahoma both have several wins over tournament teams. St. Mary's doesn't have any such win. Accumulating a bunch of wins over bad teams is good enough for the NIT.

Maybe Stanford will play Univ of San afran in the Nit. Or ast Marys. I would go to that.

USC's problem was a lack of big wins. Their only 2 wins over tournament teams were CSU Fullerton and New Mexico State.

I still believe there should be a rule that teams must be at least .500 in conference to be eligible.

Ths top half of the South is brutal with ACC, SEC, and Pac-12 champs Virginia, Kentucky, and Zona in the same 8-team brackett. I was debating between these 3 in terms of who I will choose to win it all in my bracket prior to the brackets being revealed

I'm really starting to get the sense that the NCAA is run exclusively by UNC alums.

The PAC-12 as a whole (except for ASU) stunk in the non-conference. This is the result of that.

That was easily the clumsiest bracket reveal of all time. Going through the alphabet made no sense at all. And the sound was not synced up at all. What the heck was that???

There is: It's called "common sense", especially when you're talking about going 8-10 in a weak Pac 12.

Too bad the selection committee didn't see this. All they saw was the big splash ASU made in December. Heck, that was last year! I also think they like the cut of Bobby Hurley's jib.

Or Syracuse alums.

Either that, or Boeheim keeps an extensive file of compromising information on every member of the selection committee.

How many times has Syracuse received a tournament bid even when their team was hot garbage?

That's true. Saint Mary's had a win over Gonzaga, and that's it. That's not enough to elevate Saint Mary's out of the NIT dreck, especially in a year when so many leaders of conferences that should only get one bid (looking at you, Nevada) choked in their conference tournament and forced the committee to give extra bids to undeserving teams.

Tbs did a crappy job overall. If you want to win your pool, do the opposite of what Barkley says. He is always wrong. Sound was way off from the video and the blips in the video felt like I was watching the pac 12 stream

So the Bears' suckitude helped drag down St. Mary's, too. I.e., not a "quality win". Sorry, Gaels fans....

I don't think St. Mary's got screwed but USC did. They are a better team than Syracuse.

The committee seems to struggle with understanding how much teams can improve or flatten out between December and March.

RPI is still overly weighted. The eyeball test the CFP committee uses is a better criteria. League regular season records and conference tourney performance should matter more than non conference play.

Nevada with a 7 seed.

Can someone remind me, I remember we were looking hard at musselman.

Did he say no to us? Was it a money issue? Or did we end up just passing on him?

It's simple, just schedule well.

St. Mary's probably got hurt when they lost badly to BYU in the WCC tournament semifinals.

The west coast and PAC-12 is loaded for the NIT though:

#8 SE Louisiana @ #1 Saint Mary's
#6 Rider @ #3 Oregon
#8 UNC Asheville @ #1 USC
#7 UC Davis @ #2 Utah
#6 BYU @ #3 Stanford
#4 Boise State @ #5 Washington

Interesting, I saw a few mentions of Notre Dame being a bubble team and the ESPN bracketology had them in the last 4 out. Notre Dame fell all the way to the CBI tournament.

Notre Dame is a #1 seed in the NIT. Playing Hampton on Tuesday.

Oops. When I posted that, ESPN had Notre Dame and Hampton listed in the schedule for both the NIT and CBI tournaments. It was the only game listed for the CBI, so it jumped out at me. I didn't catch that it was also listed in the NIT. It's not listed in the CBI now. That makes more sense. Sorry for the confusion.

Montana is in as well.

Travis DeCuire just did something Monty never did -- get Montana into the NCAA tournament.

So Cuonzo gets in as an 8. Will Porter be a savior?

Here's hoping Martin prepares his team as he did with us. Big bet against of course!
