I am on the band alumni list and usually if they cant play they ask for alumni help.

Didnt help the Morgue like atmosphere.

The band joined the rest of the 99.99999999999999999cal students who not only didn't show but probably didn't even know the game was being played. Reminds me of what John McKay said when someone asked him how he felt about losing to UCLA. mcKay responded: " Hell---nobody in China knows the game was even played.

In my 40+ years of going to Cal Football and MBB games, I do not recall ever a time when the Cal Band or Alumni Band has not shown up.

Things are getting really bad when no one cares.

About 20-30 years ago, WSU had a MBB Head Coach (I thinks his last name was Stevens or something like that) and they were having a terrible season. When they asked him about all the hate mail he is receiving, he said, "You have to really worry when the hate mail STOPS coming in" (yes, he was fired at the end of season).

Up to now, all the negative mail (now a days, e-mails and blogs) about The Guy Mike Williams Hired As MBB "coach" had been coming it.

Now, it appears that it is about to stop as people (even Cal Band) don't care!

Things are really bad in Cal MBB. It is time to worry.

P.S. I LOVE Cal Band. So, I have to say what I say every time I see them anywhere:

I too missed the band. They really add to the game day experience

Not only are they a tradition, but their bring positive energy and music. I think it's finals, so I think that was probably why they didn't make it, but bringing on the alumni band at those times sounds like a great solution

I have other Haas game day experience 'low hanging fruit too'

Isn't there a lot of singers we can bring in for the national anthem? They could be from our arts program, a student group, a HS, or just about anywhere

I loved the Pacific Islander event and in those cultural events they always have a singer from the group. I think there would be many volunteers if someone organized it

Also, can we at least have one stand in Haas that sells a Cal basketball shirt. UA is seriously dropping the ball. I went to the two main Cal student stores and could not find one UA Cal basketball shirt, and not a single item to buy in Haas. The guy handing out schedules could just have a single rack of shirts and sell them with a iPhone and Square device.

More people walking around with Cal basketball shirts is a type of marketing and a small way to support the team

Low hanging fruit, although I'm still unhappy that our National Championship and Jason Kidd banners are not inside the arena, and instead are behind the guy marketing credit cards

Let's not jump to conclusions: My guess is, it was the night of the band's end-of-the-year banquet. Why no Alumni Band? Maybe the two groups had a failure to communicate, I dunno. The Cal Band has a decades-and-decades-long history of supporting the teams through thick and thin... and there has been PLENTY of thin, over the years. Even as thin as this.

Yes, there was a Cal MBB game scheduled on Wednesday night in Berkeley.

Unfortunately, Cal MBB team did not show because they do not have a real Head Coach.

I understand Athletic Director Jim Knowlton will be addressing the issue soon.

The Band had a more important & entertaining activity option than watching this BB team: To sit in a corner & watch dry-wall primer paint dry.

Thanks for sharing your concerns regarding the loud music. I will pass this on to the folks responsible for the in-game entertainment. I am sure they can turn down the volume.
We should also be able to find a happy mix of both traditional band music and some of the newer non-traditional music. I believe it important to try and keep everyone happy!

I think the most pi$$ed I remember seeing Lou was when some skinny kid from Washington State (with a rat's tail hairdo) dropped at least 30 on the Bears in Harmon. As I recall, Lamond Murray was unsuccessfully trying to guard him much of the time. I never forgot the guy's name I was so impressed by him. A summer law clerk that worked for our firm in the 1990's said he played pick up with the guy once and that he was phenomenal. He had an unfortunate ending. Here is his Wikipedia page:

I remember that game.

I was at the game last night and asked a band member about the USF game. He said it was dead week, so they did not go. I think it was an oversight that they did not ask the alumni band to be there.

The band was great last night and so was the basketball team. I sat below a noisy group of SDS fans. They were very quiet by the end of the game. I think they learned their howling noises from spending too much time at the SD Zoo.

"Dead week"?!? Take a two-hour study break, for crying out loud!
