Sorry if I missed a thread that already exists on this.

Coming down to the wire. Anteaters with a small lead and around 4 minutes to go.

Man I love the 1st 2 days of March Madness. Wish Cal were anywhere near being good enough.

Edited to add: oh and UVA down to a 16 seed again. But it's early and they'll probably come back and win.

I am at the game and yes, it is a great game. It is very interesting how UCI coach is getting more out of less.

UCI with the ball and a 2 point lead, with 35 seconds left.

Anteaters now up by 4 after hitting 2 FTs. Wildcats miss and UCI shooting FTs again with 7 seconds left. Gonna win this thing!

Yeah! One of my picks came through!

Edited to add: final score UCI 70 KSU 64.

And they won. Lol of course we kept the worst coach in the country. Why not.

We're hearing extension too for recruiting optics purposes. Oh Cal you really know how to fail big.

Good coaching makes a different. In the first half UCI fell behind by around 7 and Coach Turner called a timely TO and from then UCI was in charge.

K State clearly had better athletes. UCI had the better coaching, shades of Monty coaching.

Go Bears!

socaltownie warned about the slippery-slope of keeping a coach and the need to extend. If you keep a guy after going 3-15 this year, do you fire him if he goes 7-11 next year? And if you don't extend him now (which I can't imagine they would do, but I honestly couldn't really imagine keeping him either), you probably have to extend him next year if you decide to keep him.

I don't know if people realize it, but Ernie Kent originally got a 5-year deal with WSU. He went 13-18 (7-11) his first year, and got a 1-year extension to keep him at 5 years (presumably for recruiting optics), He went 9-22 (1-17) in year 2, and he got another 1-year extension! He went 13-18 (6-12) in year 3, and he got another 1-year extension to keep him at 5 years. They finally wised up the last two years and stopped the extensions, but those first three extensions are why there is still a three-year buyout of his contract after five years of coaching.

This is just another part of what makes this decision so frustrating. People keep suggesting that it is cheaper to keep him, and that is why we are doing it. The reality is that keeping him has costs too.

The University of California system won twice today. It just was Irvine and Riverside, and not Cal nor LA

On a separate note, Pac-12 doing surprisingly ok

If it's a fake extension, it's not as bad -- i.e., put more years on the contract but the buyout cost remains the same (i.e., $2 million after next season, $1 million the year after that, zero the year after that).

If it's not a fake extension, then... well, that's almost too awful to contemplate.

Yeah, both Oregon and Washington win in runaways. ASU not so much, but they did win their play-in game.

So ultimately not the worst Pac-12 season as many had thought. 2012 should retain that title.

Both Oregon and Washington had the perfect matchups

Oregon played against one of those overachieving big 10 teams that succeeds on fundamental disciplined ball, but they have few athletes. Think of a Monty team, with a Monty-light coach and worst talent. UO's was not allowing anything easy.

UO is going do the same thing vs Irvine

UW played a similar team that had zero size across their entire lineup, except their freshman center. For some reason Utah State only went to him in the second half, and he started to get the small UW front court in foul trouble.

I don't give UW much chance vs UNC
