Unless he agrees to a meaningless extension that doesn't add a single dollar to our buyout for any additional years, we have to move forward with the contract he has now. We can't give him a real extension. We'll be right back here in 12 months.
No! That will make him feel unappreciated, and we don't want that when college basketball powers come knocking. And they will. Trust me, they will.wifeisafurd said:
Extension yes, Buy-out reduced by one year's salary..
This isn't a wild or bad idea imo. Maybe then JK will do more of his famous listening. Real hard listening.wifeisafurd said:
Listen SCT, I'm more unhappy about the football move the offense coaches around decision than Jones. I can see the reasons for the Jones extension, but I don't like what is says. No one likes to see these decisions. We would rather have much better revenue sports.
But what do you do if your a Cal donor or fan? Stop donating or attending games? Support the people that make these decisions?
OK, but will there be a press conference and a more detailed write-up other than what appeared in the SF Chronicle this AM?BearGreg said:
If there is an extension, it will not increase the buyout a single $.05. Zero financial cost extension if any

So, you're saying the extension is four cents . . . That's about fair based on current market forces!BearGreg said:

I don't get the "optics" argument. It's not like recruits can't read these (and other) boards and know that the extension, if it's happening, is not "real" and is no guarantee that Jones is here for a year four. Grace's job will be to sell Cal and not Jones. And of course the unicorn practice facility.
can any of the dudes kicking arse play power forward?bearister said:
Cal's athletic department funds are being diverted to the cost of security and damage cleanup now that under the tRump Free Speech Edict The Proud Boys, Klan, and Nazis will be speaking at Sproul Plaza thrice a month.
From the looks of it maybe on the women's team.wifeisafurd said:

I have a response to your first sentence above.socaliganbear said:This isn't a wild or bad idea imo. Maybe then JK will do more of his famous listening. Real hard listening.wifeisafurd said:

BTW anyone want to guess how long we're going to let Diane Ninemire run the softball program into the ground in that $25M house they're building? The problem with Cal is mediocrity is so very expensive, but we're addicted.
Is that $25M required to match baseball facilities? Two sports with combined attendance near zero.socaliganbear said:

Is there a reason softball and baseball can't share the same facility? That seems to work for men's and women's basketball. Then the Athletic Department could sell Evans back to the University.socaliganbear said:
Not sure if you've been to Evans recently, but it's a dump. Whatever the women get, it'll be infinitely better than the baseball team.

Yes, I didn't think of that. I wonder if it would make sense for the NCAA to schedule one of softball and baseball in the fall and the other in the spring. It might be a lot cheaper to reconfigure one field twice a year than to maintain two separate fields with no spectators.socaliganbear said:
Not the same size.
You can't really play one of these in the fall because you'd have the College World Series in December in the snow.stu said:Yes, I didn't think of that.
