I am at the game.

Those rejected by UC Berkeley and then rejected by UC Westwood and then rejected by UC San Diego are the 13 seed. Anteater is the second worst mascot after Banana Slugs. "Eater Nation" is so lame.

Basketball team built by Uncle Phil with the money made off child labor in the third world countries and masquerading around as a university is the 12 seed.

Is there a scenario in college basketball that both teams could be decleared losers?

Go Bears!

Ok, holding my nose, I have decided to root for the Nike U because:

1. If UCI wins, Russel Turner will be out of our reach/budget as a candidate for Cal.

2. I assume if a Pac-12 team wins, Cal somehow will get more money (Am I right that the team that advances gets more money and a part that money gets distributed to the conference schools?).

Yes, I am very Cal centric!!

Go Bears!

P.S. I hope we hire a good coach and be in the NCAA next year.

Pac-12 team taking control over the lesser conference team 35-21 with a minute to go in the first half.

Pac-12 gets a team in the Sweet 16 after all. Nice little late run to avoid having the worst season ever for the conference.

Why does Oregon always get an easy road through the tournament?

Because Altman builds to win modern college basketball (and would drive certain posters on this board BATTY with how unlike Newlells team they are ;-)

1) Start with a pogostick on the backline. Oregon has ALWAY had one guy, about 6'9" that can swat the ball into the 2nd deck. There was one block yesterday where I SWEAR he was higher he would have touched the top of the back board.

This is critical in the NCAA because there is a good chance you are going to get a mid major that is "height challenged". I thought UCI did pretty well last night except they had no answer for Wooten. Where is shocky to remind us about Kenny's high school grades which I am guessing where "not good".

2) Because of 1 you can overplay up top. You have Rim protectors on the back and can overstock at guards/Small Forwards that defend in your face. You have no real academic issues so you can grab anyone you can from the senior market. Amin is a CLASSIC example. Anyone guess that a kid with a degree from Texas A&M Corpus Crispie is getting into a Cal grad program? Again, this really helps in tournament play because you get those 2nd games in 2 days. If you can throw the defenders at waves you will eventually wear them down and get a run.

3) And then you hope (something this year's team doesn't have) that you find a singularly talented offensive player.

Virginia should beat them. They will not be intimidated playing into Wooten (while they didn't beat Zion they came close) and generally have the ball handlers to deal with the overlpays.

Oregon had a tough opponent in Wisconsin and they played well and beat them. But, Oregon was lucky that UCI upset Kansas State because Oregon would have had a much tougher time beating K State rather than UCI.

Go Bears!

It starts with getting INTO the tournament.

SoCal,
Would you like me to give you Bill's home address in Scottsdale?
You can go out to lunch with him and yuck it up about the old times.
Or, write him a letter via snail mail and get his email address.

Lol, smile.

Seriously, why disparage Wooten about grades like that?
Frankly, that comes off as Shocky/Trumpian racist.

The issue then is why could our (ex) coaches tied down Kenny who was a Central Valley kid (Manteca - lets call it a Bay Area ex-urb)? You can't really have it both ways - either Cal's recruiting SUCKS or there are California kids who would have been Great bears but simply are not going to be able to cut it at Cal/get through admissions and means the program plays with 1 arm behind its back. Ergo - Truckstop managers.

PS. Cause tell me Jones isn't still employed and we could well be playing if Kenny Wooten had spent the last 2 years swatting shots given our lack of a 4.

Yeah, let's give them credit for beating a 5 seed as a 12, and not in a close game either. I wouldn't call that easy.

Honestly, I thought Wisconsin was probably the best team in that mini-bracket (didn't trust K-State), and after that it was Oregon. The winner of that game was likely advancing to the Sweet 16.

Oregon has been playing extremely well, but also benefiting from poor long range shooting by opponents, as pointed out here.
Quote:

Oregon has been both good and fortunate during this current run, as opponents have combined to convert just 23 percent of their 3s. The one opponent that did shoot well from the outside, Arizona State, took the Ducks to overtime before losing 79-75.
