I wouldn't worry. Bama was probably long in the works. The fact that Wazzu was able to pull trigger a bit more concerning but it also was the case that their hire was on the beach after missing the NIT and declining CBI. If it is true that our targets are Travis and Turner they have been home for like 3 days since getting bounced. Give the process just a bit more time.

Hit the panic button if the hire isn't done by April 15. Then Cal being Cal (gosh I love that phrase)

I think we all thought firing Jones was a foregone conclusion and that Knowlton would already have had a short list of replacement options. Then, having decided the 3 game win streak at the end of the season warranted giving Jones a reprieve he probably lost some momentum....and several possibilities to more aggressive ADs with jobs to fill. Frankly, I doubt there are a lot of diamonds in the rough out there and the likelihood of our landing a proven HC seems only slightly less remote than hitting the lottery. Maybe a shot at history; Holly Warlick is available!

Fair but if the AD had even an ounce of knowledge regarding the state of our basketball program, a state that was the same at the end of the year as the beginning, you'd think he would have already solicited interest and/or isnready with a formidable strategy given how much time he's had to think about this.

If it takes a month or more to find an ok or worse hire, I think we have our answers as to whether we hired a good AD or not.

Couple of BIG differences to consider:

1. Cal is different than Alabama
2. Three days is different than a month
3. Kyle Smith is different than Nate Oats
4. A Manhattan is different than Arsenic and Old Lace
5. Yogi Bear is different than the cartoon version

If they're doing this right (hold the laugher) they should be considering some top assistants from teams that are still playing. That might hold the process up a bit.

I am not so impressed with the Alabama hire. It did not go according to plan, which was for Iowa State coach Steve Prohm (an Alabama alumnus) to come home and take over at Alabama. Prohm has been successful at both Murray State and a major conference school. Oats took over a good program from Bobby Hurley and has a limited track record at a mid-major. For all the impatient alumni there, remember how the Cal fan base was totally exasperated at the length of the search for Ben Braun's replacement, and then they hired Monty, who was not on anyone's radar?

I wouldn't advise hiring Coach Izzo. I doubt our fans would tolerate all the hollering and antics . . plus he has exploding eyeballs like Coach Martin.

However, give Coach Few and Coach Bennett a look or the Lakers will make the first move.

Take your time . . . maybe take 6 months . . . whatever the process takes.

I would add Thad Matta would be a better retread HC....

Why not John Wooden? It won't matter that he's dead, except that will keep the salary down. Just hire some good assistants.
