Don't know anything about his coaching style. Can Fox coach X's and O's? Do his teams play motivated defense? There is a silent group of Cal fans taking the wait and see approach. And yes, I was very displeased with the Wyking Jones pick before he even coached his first game.

Funny thing about that. First of all, he was worse than a Plan D hire since UO whiffed on Izzo, Few, Kruger and others.

But I went into the BI Wayback Machine a few weeks ago to see what we thought of the hire which was way back in 2010. Basically the consensus was "meh"....he's a good X and O guy and he's "Mr. Clean" (actual comment) who will never bring in 4 and 5 star recruits to Oregon because he's so full of integrity.

Fox's teams at Georgia were generally solid defensively but struggled to score efficiently. He played a tempo that ranged from slow (ranked in the 200's in tempo) to very slow (300's). His teams at Nevada played faster (100's). And the best offensive team he had was his Nevada team in 2007 (#14 in offensive efficiency) that featured Nick Fazekas and Ramon Sessions.

This is an upgrade from Wyking, but just about anything would be. I'd say Fox is similar to Cuonzo in expected results overall. Just good enough to prolong his tenure, but fans will eventually tire of the underachieving.

Maybe that's the key to success for someone stepping up from mid major to P5 conference - cheat. Worked for Altman, Miller, Enfield - not for FOX. Probably means won't work for DeCuire or Turner either.

Oh don't i know. It goes back a long time and I thought about resurfacing some of the old reactions to Wyking (and others) being hired but figured I'd spare folks to keep the peace. I'm just glad that I've been right all the time. (Sarcasm)
