Tariq Owens was super impressive.

I would love for the Warriors to take a flyer on this guy (in the same way they signed Boucher from Oregon to a two way contract).

He may develop into a legitimate stretch 4 in time (maybe). but more importantly, he's a big nimble enough to defend the pick and roll. Plus he's super high energy. He'd be perfect for 5-10 mins a game for the dubs if he could develop some semblance of an offensive game.

And according to FiveThirtyEight with zero top-30 recruits between them.

Kyle Guy rated at #27 per ESPN / Scout. They succeed with players ranked nationally in the top 50 but generally do not get top 25. Getting players ranked 26-100 that stay for multiple years is the way to go. The top 25 are mostly thinking 1 and done and get paid by Duke, Zona, Oregon, Kansas, Syracuse, UCLA and Kentucky.

So how good defensively were Fox's Georgia teams, or his Nevada teams?

Could be that the last 4-5 seasons were not good recruiting classes, or it could be that the recruit ranking gurus missed on a larger number of recruits than usual, or it could be that coaching still makes a big difference. And defense is one thing that a good coach can teach his players to do well, even players who are not highly ranked. Player rankings are heavily tilted in favor of the good offensive players

Thanks Greg. Very encouraging info about Fox's defense at least. Gets me stoked a little.

Virginia also was the second ranked team in adjusted offensive efficiency according to KenPom, and Tech was 25th. Tough teams all around.
