Not considered a serious candidate. Who knows what that even means for an adrift franchise like the Lakers.

Why would the Lakers hire a HC before hiring a VP?

Why would you take the Lakers HC job before they hired a VP, which would be your boss?

Why would you take the Lakers VP job if you can't hand pick your own new HC and/or GM?

Why is Rob Pelinka leading this HC search, unless he's going to be promoted to VP?

According to many reputable reporters, many people are telling Lue and Williams to avoid the Lakers job. I assume it's in part due to the questions above.

Lue wouldn't have to worry, because his boss still has 3 years remaining on his Lakers contract.

They've got a 2-3 year window with MeBron, and they wonder why it may be difficult to get another star in their prime to attach themselves to the MeBron experiment.

Reports:

LAL offered 3yr/$18 million (no coach would accept a 3 yr deal)

LAL pushed Lue to hire Kidd as an assistant (lol, who does that to a potential hire)

Lue is still owed $10M from Cavs, so he has little incentive to take a short deal. Lue wanted 5 years.

The Rambis family turned Lue off.

Can you imagine lucking into a situation where you get to ride LeBron James to a championship, then being out of work for a year because everyone knows you're not that great of a coach and you rode LeBron James to a championship, and then, because the front office of a team trying to ride LeBron James to a championship is out of ideas, getting another shot at riding LeBron James to a championship, and then deciding to play hardball and holding out for elite-coach money because you once rode LeBron James to a championship even though everyone knows you're not an elite coach and that you rode LeBron James to a championship? I can't figure out what is dumber here: the Lakers, Tyronn Lue, or this comment.

This is so absurdly fantastic I might have to swing by Staples tomorrow to "report" on it.

Cal is a hot mess. He would be wise to come in few years when the program is only a mess. No denying the Lakers (unlike Cal) have good talent to work with.

Agreed. No way can a guy of Kidd's stature get involved with Cal right now. Maybe when we have a practice facility and have been taking it semi-seriously for a while.

Vogel agreed to it, even as Lue would not?
BTW, why would the Lakers be so invested in hiring Kidd that they would push him as an assistant on the head coach? Just guessing, but could it be because they want a head coach with better x's and o's than Jason, but like Jason's connection to players and the cred he gets from that. Maybe LeBron is positive about Jason?

Cavs insisted on putting Lue on Blatt's staff.

Before long, Lue had the respect and ear of players, most notably LeBron.

You know how that ended.

The Lakers insistence on making Kidd an assistant makes ZERO sense unless you see him as the heir apparent long-term. And in that case, why would a proven coach accept those conditions.

Hence the five year contract demands.

I get Beilin's reputation as a great teacher of offense, and the Cavs have young players likely to buy in to college coach, but I still find this choice odd. Perhaps his age is clouding my judgement.

Remember when Michigan reportedly wanted Ben Braun and it made everybody nervous?

As far as the Lakers, not replacing Magic and eliminated the VP of Basketball Ops is an odd move but it shouldn't surprise us. The incest and nepotism of the org is apparent -- Jeanie would rather have people around her she knows than have a competent staff with a clear expertise and vision. This is what poor managers do. Rob Pelinka is now the chief who has two years experience and has accomplished nothing except for drafting two busts with their top picks.

I don't see a win-situation for the Lakers. I almost want to see them trade the farm for AD, because they still won't be very good next year if they do. They're better off adding without subtracting, which means signing a star FA. I don't see anybody jumping onto Bron's team during his latter years to play 2nd fiddle for less money on a meddling team and franchise.

More man-child talk. If he loves the franchise that much, there are better ways to undermine a bad management group. This is just petty and sad.

Beilein has a great basketball mind. It'll be interesting to see if that's enough.

Why would the Lakers put anyone in Magic's former position? He never showed up enough to make it a real job. I mean, I'd be happy to jump in there and not show up for the same money but they probably figured out that it was a waste.
