UCI's Russell Turner (Montgomery protege at Stanford and Warriors assistant) was mentioned as a candidate. Last week UCI beat San Diego and they went 30-6 last year...

Though last year we also beat San Diego State so might be too soon to judge, but so far so good.

In defense of Turner, he lost arguably his best player in shooting guard Max Hazzard as a Grad Transfer.
He went to Arizona. Cal was in the mix for Hazzard.

(Arizona also got Kentucky 5th year player, and former Cal recruit Jemarl Baker as a Grad Transfer).

The rich get richer I guess.

That's a solid win for Pepperdine. Good luck to Lorenzo. I always thought he was a class act.

Agree.

After the game, I went to the RSF to play basketball.
Coach Lorenzo was in the hallway looking at the boxscore sheet.
I walked up to him and said I always respected him from when he was in the Pac12, and he shook my hand and chatted briefly.

He hired Ken Bone, who failed as a Head Coach, but is a great Xs and Os type. I think Lorenzo was pretty smart to hire Bone for his staff.

Baker is actually the same year as JHD. He actually got Dyson to come to Cal iirc.

Just to clarify. Jemarl was not a grad transfer. Just a regular transfer who got immediate legibility.

How did he get immediate eligibility?

Not totally sure, SFCB. I get the sense though that the injuries he had over his first 2 years at Kentucky were a significant aspect of the waiver request.

The redshirt year probably was key. Kentucky also supported the petition.
It's all just entertainment, so find a way to enjoy it.
The refs are there to feed your hatred addiction and keep the games close.

Yes
My oversight. Just seems like he should be a grad transfer he's moved around so much.

Sounds reasonable. I thought he was only injured in one year and not in two. Hope he has some success now, just not against us.

No, no. He said immediate LEGibility. He found someone to write his term papers whose penmanship is incredible.
