I pretty much can confidently say that Fox is going to get as much out of this team as our talent allows. You could see that UNLV has quicker and more athletic guys but our dudes totally gutted it out AND played SMART basketball. Could not be more pleased.

Fun game and great win for the young Bears! More importantly it was a tough, hard-fought game. They need games like this early. Team playing with a lot of poise and teamwork.

Go Bears!!

Sportssurge.net seems to be ignoring college basketball tonight. I found this stream on Reddit and it's working for me.

Fox was the right choice. He's got this team playing smart basketball..so refreshing to see it..it's been missing a long time. Obviously the team has some limits but man they play hard. Go Bears!!

Hard to imagine Kelly was riding the bench most of last year. He was a big factor in this game. Give Kelly and the coaches credit.

Got to watch my son's torso dance on the TV screen behind the post game interviews. I recognized the shoes.

You're welcome. Like an idiot, I accidentally closed the window I was streaming in with about 5 minutes left in regulation and couldn't get back in. I found another stream, but it was frequently buffering. Still, I got to see the OT.

Like others have said, after the last few seasons in the wilderness, it's so much fun to watch good basketball again.

Not cause of his man to man defense, but because he's the only one who knows how to play effective help defense. He was phenomenal

If he can just learn how to play a little more under control on offense.

I gotta admit. Otzelberger was my first choice. And Fox just beat him with a way less athletic roster

Fox has hurdled over the floor. He can clearly coach.

Now let's see if he can clear the ceiling by recruiting (or at least identifying hidden gem international players)

So, Austin doesn't play the final minutes of regulation but gets called upon to drive and win the game (which he almost does) and then doesn't play in overtime.

Yeah, it's called good coaching. Play the right players at the right time, which is exactly what Fox did.

Trying to remember who it was who posted before the season that JHD wouldn't see the floor because he's proved he's worthless...

Brown is way longer so he's a much more effective zone defender.

With that said, i probably would've played Austin in OT as well.

What's comforting is that we know that Fox has a plan and chose to play brown instead for a reason.

Wow. Can't remember the last time I watched us out-coach the other team. UNLV on the verge of pulling away and Fox goes all-in on defense (JHD and Brown). After failing to see any half time adjustments the last few years we see a mid-game adjustment.

Very happy for JHD.

Agreed! This is a fun team to root for and it is great to see the players being put in a position to succeed with good coaching.

I said before that, despite the search process, I hope Fox kills itso far so good! So far, he is more like Monty than like Braun.

I think Fox put together a good staff to recruit the West Coast. He is going after 3 point shooting which I like. If he can show the program is on the upswing this year, recruiting should improve too.

Go Fox! Go Bears!

I wanted JHD to play some PF as UNLV was giving us problems with their quickness. Interesting that our other 4 guards all scored in double figures.

I liked using the zone but seldom enough to keep UNLV from getting used to it.

The assist totals were horrible: just 10 for UNLV and 11 for us in an overtime game.

The refs sucked - calling touches, wasting time, calling Kelly from across the court on a clean block, etc. And it looked like whoever starts the clock didn't near the end.

It would be interesting to go back and look at that initial team meeting video again. Some people headed out the door after that, but those who decided to stay have obviously bought in.

I sat behind Fox. He looked like a man out of control at times.
A couple observations:

Paris' jersey was out of his shorts, and Fox was going crazy, looking back at assistants and yelling about it while the game was going on. Calm the F down, fella.

Coming into a timeout, Fox took 3-4 steps out onto the floor to setup what he was gonna do. Then turned around to get his clip board, and was furious that he had to take 2 steps back to grab it from the hand of the student asst who was trailing him a half second late. He ripped it from the student asst's hand like a ********.

I was afraid he was going to be like this all game, but it turns out that there were moments where he bottled that inner rage and was engaged in pensive strategic thought. A nice mix, but I think everyone around him is going to be on eggshells fearful of getting the horns when he pops.
