They blew Mississippi Valley State out of the gym, shooting 72% on field goals, 50% on threes, and 92% on free throws. They put up 90 shots, and had 57 field goals on 41 assists, which is ridiculous. That means 72% of their field goals came by way of an assist. That is some serious team basketball. Nine Utah players scored in double figures. They had an assist to turnover ratio of about 4 to 1, which is hard to imagine. They out- rebounded Mississippi Valley by 61 to 26.

Either Mississippi Valley State is the worst D1 team on the planet, or Utah will be a handful for Cal or any opponent. They get no respect from the basketball forecasters, as most predictions have them picked to finish 9th in the PAC12. And the bad news is we play them at least twice this season.

My son was playing in the Utah band that night so I had the first half of that game on that night. I wasn't watching closely as I have two tvs going usually. What I did notice when I watched is that Mississippi Valley State would come down and take a bad shot quickly regardless of the fact that they weren't making them and were getting killed. MVS took 80 shots during the game. They were 4 for 30 from behind the 3 point line.

Not knowing much about UU (except for their coach), I had no sense of how good they will be; however, their roster is huge 2 guys over 7' (one at 7-4) and 3 at 6-9 or better. Going to be a handful.

Utah could be good, but not that good. I was at the opening game, Utah vs. Nevada. Close game, 79-74. Nevada lost its best player after 8 minutes or they probably win. They used Pac 12 refs who are ridiculous. They believe in calling every ticky tack foul. Utah had 22 FTs and Nevada 7.

MVS is now 0-4 losing by an average of about 70 to 120 per game.

I'd take out the Utah game stats, but...............................

BTW: did LK empty the bench for the last 10 minutes or so??????

Utah beat Minnesota 73-69 last night.

I've been following the soap-opera that is Golden Gopher basketball since Matz Stockman decided/had to stay. Richard (don't call me "Rick") Pitino ((known more for recruiting than actually coaching) apparently forgot to reload after losing 4-6 key players.

Thoughts on this Utes' win......meh.
