Let's enjoy the wins we get. There have been too few the last couple of years.

Yeah Pac 12 looks strong this year. Much tougher conference than the past couple years.

I'm happy to see the Bears are improved and improving. The team is coming along and it's one step at a time.

Can't worry too much about the rest of the conference right now. There's plenty of time for that later.

By far the biggest improvement from last year is jhd's ability to dunk the ball

Any other alleged improvements pale in comparison

One thing that is really encouraging is how much Monty is high on this team and how they are playing team hoop. Fox can coach - can he recruit?

I think the early returns are that Fox will be a very effective recruiter. Look at how he miraculously rebuilt the team after all the transfers. And the early impressions are very good on all the players he brought in!

Lars and South yes, but Klonaras and Kuany not yet. The signees sound promising. I like that he is focused on 3 pt. shooting, that was a deficiency in his recruiting (or starting rotations) at Georgia, but is the key to the modern game.

Good stuff from JHD. Could develop into another Sean Lampley.
LOL. God I love our fans. Lampley was an ELITE shooter and a highly rated recruit.

But yes. I love JHD's motor and how he fights.

Lampley was not a highly recruited player although he was rated the 15th best small forward in his class - possibly because he was coming off an injury which caused him to miss most of his senior year in high school. Ben Braun started recruiting him when he was coach at Eastern Michigan and when Braun was hired by Cal he became Braun's first signing. His only other offer was from Western Kentucky, where his big brother was playing, despite being a Top 100 player. Western Kentucky had just made three straight NCAA appearances at the time including Sweet Sixteen so it is not like it was chopped liver, but Lampley wasn't being recruited by the big boys.

Lamply also wasn't an elite shooter or a slasher. The dude was a beast and made his living inside, which is why Shantay Legans and the Bears spent most of the shot clock passing around the perimeter and trying to work the ball inside for two seasons.

Yep the dude made his living inside and could not be defended 1 on 1. What really made lampley special was his ability to pass out of double teams.

out of time out - it's brown, Bradley, Gordon, Kelly and south
I guess Kelly isn't too small to play in a lineup like that after all.

Had some moments in the game though. Nice seal and finish for a bucket and a big-time block at the rim. Growing pains are painful.

Fox messed around with the lineup while we were rolling early and jacked up the mojo
I don't understand why coaches take out a hot shooter. I would wait for him to miss a shot before taking any player on a shooting streak out. I don't care how tired he is.

I am loving the current version of Grant Anticevich

I complained every game last year he wasn't getting enough minutes. Yes, he is in better shape this year but the skills were always there. So happy a guy who got so screwed stayed.
His skills this year were not there last year. That man WORKED on his game.

Stanford was a Top Five (and sometimes #1) team in the country during that time with the Collins twins inside. I can't imagine how they managed to do that.

So far Fox looks to have been an excellent choice as our coach.

For one, it is impressive how Anticevich and Kelly are playing. Wyking clearly did not have confidence in either of these guys and it showed in their play. Fox has both of them playing really well.

That the whole team seems to do better in the second halves of their games is a tribute to the coach.

Brown is really doing well, with his constant hustle and his ability to affect the game on both ends of the court. I thought he was a key to our victory last night and I can't recall that he made even one shot. He also rarely turns the ball over, plays selflessly as a point guard.

Lars is obviously a work in progress, but appears to be catching on a bit. He will never be fast, but can be a force if he keeps learning/improving. I don't expect him to be another Bird or Jokic, but if he keeps improving he can be a very good big over his four years (or toward the end of his four years) for the Bears.

From what I can see, Fox is doing a masterful job in creating a team that plays as a team and is fun to watch.

Last year I could not, over the course of the season, even watch our team. The first time I felt that way in the almost 50 years that I have been a regular at Bears' home games. Last night I chose to be at the game, rather than watch the Dubs against the Celtics. Last year my choice would have been reversed.

Reading the comments on this Board was REALLY difficult. Man, we got it that Coach Jones couldn't coach early on......stop hitting us over the head, already.

I went back to following the Wizards......which shows the depth of my desperation.

Block of the early year ;-) Monty keeps talking about layups ;-)
Didn't take long for that to be overtaken. Block of the early year now goes to Paris who cleanly stuffed a guy 7" taller.

Not until he shows he can recruit. College coaches have to do both, they can't just be very good at one.

Yup and so far Fox has shown he's a competent coach, something we haven't had in several years. We've beat the teams we're supposed to beat. Extremely premature to draw any more conclusions than that IMO.

Fo sho. Although Paul did engage in baptizing, it was John who was the "Baptist". It was John who baptized Jesus before he started his ministry, good catch!
