CLASSIC CAL THREAD

Starts with a BB experience
Ends with an argument about unemployment numbers.

All y'all know, of course that unemployment numbers are sometimes questionable because
they are based on those actually....................never mind.

Everyone has a right to vote fir who they. Want. Though I don't support Trump, people that do are not all stupid bad people. Tolerance.

And one facility issue that I keep forgetting to contact someone about is the fact that there are no lights towards the bottom of the northwest stairwell (near the baseball field), making it very unsafe when exiting night games.

Yes, I mentioned that earlier in this thread. You'd think that keeping the lights on and keeping the place safe would be high on the priority list.

By the way, regardless of the unemployment situation, I have found the staff to be unfailingly polite. Sometimes inexperienced, but always polite.

I write about the restaurant industry in the East Bay regularly, and there's no question the labor shortage is having a major impact on service industries.

That said, leadership can help with staff attitudes ...

Agree. I heard that cal sports security staff don't stay long with cal as they don't like how they are treated by some fans, so they return to work other Bay Area events

Basically they have options and so retention is an issue

They probably like working Warrior games at Chase Center since I'm sure they don't run into any pr@icks there.

and the labor market in the restaurant industry is the most volatile and shady industry I've ever personally witnessed, albeit I was in high school at the time (never seen 20 and 30 yoa somethings act like 14 year olds in my entire life; where's the next hit??? be it drugs or sex).

It's probably those damn fans who think they can stay 10 minutes after the game and listen to the Straw Hat Band. The nerve.

In DC, many "workers" (non-servers,non management) are underpaid, overworked and, some, illegal. METRO closes at 11:30 making it very hard for them to get home.....usually far out-of-town

I was a 4 year season ticket holder with floor seats. Last year was the fourth year. Since I moved to northern Nevada this is my first year with a Wolf Pack season pass. Didn't know what to expect. Was very surprised as the atmosphere at Lawlor Events Center is much better than at Haas. Lawlor holds 11,560 fans so it is comparable to Haas. You would think Nevada was the "big" university and Cal was the "podunk" one.

Nevada Basketball games are probably the top 5 most interesting things to do in Reno every month November to March. I don't think that would be true for any BBall team in the Bay Area - Warriors included.

Nevada has experienced a big uptick in attendance the last few years but unless Steve Alford can replicate what Musselman did the attendance will likely go back down to Cal levels. Cal averaged 5,627 last year under the previous coach.http://fs.ncaa.org/Docs/stats/m_basketball_RB/2020/Attendance.pdf

Lawlor Events Center - Average Attendance

I don't think there have been any Nobel laureates at UNR. As a sports fan I don't really care, as none of them could shoot the three. From Nov. to March I go skiing at Mt.Rose almost every day. When I checked, skiing at Mt Tam or Mt Diablo wasn't very good. People in the Bay Area come up to Reno-Tahoe where there is nothing to do.

There is one aspect of the Haas experience we don't have here at UNR. There are no guys with sleeping bags in doorways. Fortunately it is too cold. No sign of ANTIFA either. As a dedicated right wing, white male supremacist, Nazi, I don't miss these guys. What I do miss, is the UC I went to (Pete Newell was coach)and it was not a socialist university. Cal is strictly a left wing, academic university where FB and BB are at mid major level at best.

UNR has about 3 times as many cheer leaders as Cal. Also being a dirty old man, I appreciate the fact that many of them are hot. Prior to game time they walk around the stands. Makes it worth coming early. I will be there for the Santa Clara game tonight. Fortunately it has stopped snowing.

Did you get the memo about being politically incorrect that said you're still not supposed to say you're a Nazi, even if you're kidding?

I have earned the right to be "politically incorrect". The white male has been branded as the "bad" guy responsible for all the ills in the country. Conservatism is equated with Nazism. Seriously I think "character" of Cal affects recruiting. Cal should be in the Ivy League. Just too far away.

As long as I live I will associate UNR with one player, Edgar Jones.

By the way, living on this earth a long time may give you the right to be politically incorrect. It doesn't give you the right to be rude. We get it. You think the place that most of us live and enjoy is a shyte hole. Constantly going to a board filled with people that call a place home and telling them how crappy you think it is makes you an ass. I will resist the temptation to respond in kind about your home. But I will say that if you were so happy about living in Reno, you wouldn't be so obsessed with trashing your former home. If you have found a place you enjoy living, why don't you just enjoy it and leave us alone?

UNR completely dominated Santa Clara in every phase of the game. SC cannot rebound and they cannot defend the three. The final was 98-67 and UNR hit 14-27 threes. Cal should beat SC.

Damn straight. You have to earn that right. You gotta bring it for years, never worrying about back to backs, or being too tired on a day. You gotta bring your game everyday.

Tonight the volume was up again. Way up. Mostly making noise unrelated to basketball.

At least the inflatable-suit bumper game got interesting when the announcer had to start knocking over the insufficiently enthusiastic participants.

The bumper volunteers are currently in concussion protocol.

I think you graduated too early. If you'd been here in the 70's you would have learned a class analysis of oppression. The color of your skin is irrelevant. The oppressors may all be white men, but that doesn't preclude their oppression of white men. There's nothing wrong with you that a little class consciousness couldn't fix.
