Lou Ritchie has told the chronicle that " Monte Bowser just had a terrific off-season." Hope springs eternal. Now---where is the PG to replace Austin, and, hopefully, a talented big man who can step right in and play meaningful minutes right away??right now, we don't have enough scholarships available to accomplish the above..
I'd be willing to bet anybody a cyber-beverage that we'll have more schollies available next season. The question is, who can we get to fill them? Agree, we need a PG whose skill set compliments that of Joel Brown and a big man who's both tough and at least semi-athletic.
I watched Monte Bowser yesterday at the NorCal Tip-off Classic at Newark Memorial High.....Bowser had a decent game finishing with 12 pts.....He plays with a lot of intensity but is rather thin....needs to bulk up without losing any quickness...another 15-20 pounds would help him under the hoop....decent shooter (not lights out), fair handle, fair rebounder.....IMO, he needs to improve quite a bit to be of any impact at the Pac12 level...The guy that stood out the most to me was Mor Seck, a center from Riordan in S.F. ...He is a 7' 1" sophomore who moves incredibly athletically...He is not a great basketball player yet but he will be one of the best in the nation when he is a senior.....This kid moves better than any, and I mean ANY 7' 1" person I have ever seen....Maybe Olajuwon could move better but not actually sure of that....With the right coaching and attitude, Seck could (will) be phenomenal...

That is quite a recommendation. I hope you are right , and if Fox sees the same things, I hope that he will be early to recruit him.
If you want to compare with the 7+ footer who could move better than anyone, there was none better than Wilt. Here is a mixtape, and some of the footage early in the tape is of Wilt at 17 years old at Kutcher's resort, playing for Red Auerback against Celtics and other professional players.
Thanks for the scouting report. If Bowser doesn't have any above average skill to offset his skinny frame then I don't know how he cracks the rotation next year. Maybe it's his intensity as you mentioned.
We need intensity. Everyone on the team besides Bradley looked timid in New York. We need some guys that aren't scared and salivate at the chance of playing Duke in MSG.
I saw Wilt several times but not as a 15 year old....Wilt was an incredible athlete for his size, this kid is as incredible an athlete but not anywhere close to being as good as Wilt was as a basketball player....yet.....then again, he may never get the needed coaching or accept the same to allow the growth that is possible....This kid is phenomenally gifted.....

I think they see Bowser as a bit of a project... maybe he cracks the rotation as a sophomore. He has length, decent shooting and pretty good athleticism, plus that intensity: a good starting point.

Maybe I can catch one of this kid's games. I live only a few blocks from Riordan. What year is he in?
Seck is a sophomore.....at this time in my sophomore year of high school, I was 15 years old.....this kid is so fluid for a 7 footer it is very hard to believe he is that young....While Monroe is good, I don't like his court attitude....Clark is a solid D1 player but his attitude could use some adjustment too....Maybe I'm just a bit old for this new style but I've seen this type of attitude bite too many kids in the butt over the years to discount it.....

Agree BC. A team needs a couple of SOB's! I mean that as a compliment. Bring on Jorge's!!!

I think attitude was better in society in general in those days of which you speak. And in basketball, if it was necessary, we had coaches who were good at adjusting attitude. Today, a lot of their techniques for doing this are not allowed.

This is what I posted last year about a kid, Mor Seck, that I saw playing for Riordan HS.....I just ran across this report about Seck.....very encouraging....seems like he's got the right attitude to be great....If Fox isn't all over this guy, he should be fired for not doing his job.....
I remember hearing that Seck was just one part of a really talented team. I recall that Riordan also had/has 2 P5 caliber players to go with him. Hopefully we're tracking all of them.
Seck is 7' 1" and in an early stage of development (has only played for 4 years)....Lewis is 6' 8" and has played most of his life....Hands down, if I could pick one and only one, it would be Seck every time....Only problem is Seck will probably only play 1 year and be gone, maybe not even 1 if the rules are changed fairly soon....
Dearbearman: Character is more important than ever. since our personalities are more or less fixed at the age of three, there are very few kids who can substantially alter their character at a later date. There are some NFL and NBA teams who will refuse to draft a kid if the personality reports are too negative. Personality also equates to desire. Questionable character leads to diminished desire down the road.

That late jump in his rating was BS. He is not a big-time prospect.
