and we hired him. He came in all Hoosiers tough guy school and his best scorer and his best front court guy said "transfer portal" as fast as possible. He has no one (cause out of coaching) ready to go and so we have TWO scorers (sorta) and then a stiff frosh at center and no PG. Yeah - a recipe for success.

And I would be unshocked if Bradley doesn't bolt after this year. Why stick with this **** show?

Nope. Lars is not a Pac-12 caliber player by any stretch of the imagination. Nor either of our starting point guards. Great kids, I am sure, but fundamentally they do not have talent to crack any other team (much less starting 5) in our conference and would NOT start for Santa Clara, USF and possibly UCD>

Some observations and thoughts:

Bradley looks to be in a real funk. He hasn't played well since coming back from NYC. Don't know what the "rules violation" was about, but something is clearly not right.

Paris Austin is not a D1 point guard. How many offensive fouls today (certainly more than assists).

I'm beginning to wonder if the NYC trip wasn't a mistake. Generally speaking, I'm always in favor of such trips and the chance to measure against top-flight competition. But perhaps this was a bridge too far and it demoralized them. If so, Fox needs to figure out what to do to change the mindset.

The team seems to be playing hard, but unlike earlier in the year, they look confused. Instead of some kind of motion or purposeful offense, there's a lot of 1 on 1 dribble driving and standing around. Fox needs to do something!

I also think Fox needs to speak more with the media or he will lose the fanbase totally.

socaltownie wrote (earlier in thread): "I am going to get a Lars sucks shirt."

1. That's crossing the line. Would you actually get that shirt and wear it when his parents come out for a game?

2. He's a freshman big from another country. Give him at least a year to make the adjustment. After that, STILL endeavor to be respectful.

He DOES suck. He is slow to rotate, doesn't jump, can't body guys and doesn't understand help defense. He is one of these kids that is tall but didn't grow up playing basketball and it realllllllyyyyyy shows.

Is he who we have? Yes. That is on the guy that mike williams hired (and as well brining in a coach who was on the beach for a year and had no way to fill the class after the transfers). But lars will NEVER be a pac-12 center. If you don't see that you don't understand basketball. You can book mark this post - I hope I am wrong and he wins player of the year his senior year. Before then he actually need to learn to JUMP.

Fine. He is deeply talent deficient and doesn't do much of all well other than shoot free throws and exist as a 6 foot 10 or 11 inch guy.

I think A.

We don't have a D1 point guard and ESPECIALLY don't have a PG that can shoot.

We don't have finishers. Thus our PG CAN break guys down but when they drive and attempt to either drop off or kick out it is a challenge. When they drop off our hands of stone Front court muffs it. When they kick out our shooters are just SLLLLOOOOOOOWWWWW on the release which means teams recover. But that isn't a big recovery because, for the most part, teams down't have to really help out cause see proceeding paragraph,'

We can't defend the post. Calorusso went for 16 and could have gotten more. Of course I called Lars a name and the cal partisans said tsk tsk

Because we can't defend the post we help down. They then kick out. Santa Clara went 8 for 17 from three and a lot of those looks were WIDE open stepping in from the kick out to the guy we rotated away from to help.

We don't run the pick and roll well and this MIGHT be fox coaching. Grant can pick and pop but, IIRC (but I don't have tape) people have figured that out and just switch on his high picks because they know, generally, the 2 through 4 can defend Grant in the post so you are not going to get burned with a mismatch. We don't need to worry about the 1 because our PGs can't shoot. Of course LARS can't pick and pop nor is he strong on the roll. So right now everyone with Matt is going over the screen and everyone else is going under. It just is a nightmare of futility.

Maybe others are seeing something else. But that is what I have noticed the last 2 games.

I agree that he's not contributing at either end of the court so far this season. Frankly, I'm surprised that we were hearing so many positive things about him.

However, young big guys can get dramatically better. (If you don't know that, please don't tell me I don't understand basketball.) If he is an older freshman with considerable basketball background, okay, he might not have that much of an upside. But if he's younger and hasn't yet had the athletic/basketball training that he could've gotten here, he could get a LOT better. Much of it might depend on his personal motivation to work hard and improve... and if he can absorb coaching.
