Why would anyone agree to play when they cant sell tickets to pay for the huge expenses of travel etc. Furd board thinks they will decline.

Yeah, wouldn't make sense to play the NIT without fans (revenue). At least the NCAA Tournament makes big bucks from TV and crowns the national champion.
