heyy, nice catch from mcneil river santuary, thanks. been there done that, mumble decades ago. lottery winners watch from same locations going back decades, so not scary (to bear). then during hunting season, just a few miles out, the same habituated griz can be shot dead, or worse, thanks bunches trigger-happy ak dept of f&g.

It has that grizzly bear hump. Maybe it is an adolescent. I have only seen a live grizzly once (in Denali National Park) and it was about this size.

Definitely looks like a griz.

hear ya OB. few early cybears are spring chicks anymore (rip legendary greybear) not even teener greg-i-need-more-characters. the year me and my better half lucked out we'd abandoned mid season's very low odds in favor of trailing dates in the lottery.

one day esp stands out in fading memories. bear were scarce so sanctuary guardian walked us towards another place. on the opposite bank not far across a narrow part of the river, we couldn't miss two stressed cubs, whining. then invisible in the bush *behind* us came alarmed calls from out of touch mama. guide gathered the group of 10 close together, ordered us to be quiet, look tall, and wait. bear fam soon after reunited, crisis over. btw, many years at mcneil toting an impressive rifle, he never needed it. nice guy.
