heyy, nice catch from mcneil river santuary, thanks. been there / done that, maany decades ago. lottery winners watch from same viewing spot, going back decades, so not scary (to bear). then during hunting season, just a few miles out, the same habituated griz can be shot dead, or worse, thanks bunches trigger-happy ak dept of f&g.

Awfully small for a Grizzly. Some black bears are brown.

It has that grizzly bear hump. Maybe it is an adolescent. I have only seen a live grizzly once (in Denali National Park) and it was about this size.

Definitely looks like a griz.

hear ya OB. not many cybears are spring chicks anymore [rip legendary greybear], not even the decades ago teen signing himself greg-i-need-more-characters. me and my better half only lucked out after abandoning mid season's very low odds in favor of trailing dates in lottery season.

one day esp stands out. falls bear were scarce when sanctuary guardian (Aumiller) walked us towards two stressed cubs crying for help from across the stream. then in the bush *behind* us came alarmed calls from out of touch mama. so LM gathered our group of 10 close together, ordered us to be quiet, look tall, and wait.

bear fam soon after were reunited, crisis over. btw, many years at mcneil, always toting an impressive rifle, larry never needed it. still have his picture book, up on the shelf..
