Just a thread to keep tabs on what recruits/transfers are coming and what players are leaving around the conference.

Maybe one to meet an eye on. Sturdivant was a top 150 PG and had both Cal and Georgia in his final 8. When Fox was at UGA, he got a visit from Sturdivant and did an in-home so there's a relationship there. He lost his father mid-season and didn't play much for the Trojans.

It looks like he dropped Georgia (after Fox left, maybe because?) and was considering Cal (under Wyking) and has been to Haas this year. So he possibly likes Fox and likes Cal? Or maybe he wants to go back to Georgia to be closer to family. Yes, good player to watch.

No surprise here. It'll remain a mystery how UW was so bad last year with a decent amount of talent and several NBA players.

Another hit for UW. Former O'Dowd PG. Gotta think we're in consideration.

No, it's still there. There has been a proposal made by an NCAA working group to change that, but it has not been voted on by conferences or adopted yet.

I remember he attended games at Haas. I ran into him and asked him if he was coming to Cal, and he said he wasn't sure. I got the sense he is a good guy from our short conversation

not sure we offered him, but Rabb spoke highly of him. I've followed him at UW. Doesn't play a lot of minutes, and is similar to Brown in that he is athletic, has a good handle, is a good passer, but not a shooter

Yeah, head scratcher. Looks like he weighs like 170. Hard to see him playing against pros, at any level, with that frame right now.

A lot of these guys declaring for the draft are just getting a feel for where they might land. Most will be back. Just like Payton Pritchard, Tres Tinkle and many others last year.

Mannion sure didn't look like a guy ready to play in the NBA to me. Maybe he's been reading his own press clippings for too long.

I think a lot of these draft entries are due to:

1. Why not give it a shot. They can come back to school if they don't get a good feel for their chances.
2. With the uncertainty around school and Covid, I'm sure that was the nudge that many of these guys needed. After all, most of these people are more focused on pro than college - to them it mostly a forced step for them endure.

Last year, there were 177 early entrants from US colleges or "other educational institutions." . Of those 89 withdrew from the draft and returned to school.

Food for thought

Airline travel is down 95%. (yup, you read that right) in at least one pretty major spoke airport. Airlines have cut schedules to the bare bones. NBA teams have dispersed and are sheltering in home.

What do these kids get by entering the portal? opportunity for a tampering free phone call or text? It just seems VERY doubtful that at the absolute earliest they could work out for anyone prior to June 1 (and I am not sure that date is sticking). What does it even MEAN to be entering the portal this year as a leaner? (and conversely do you lose ANYTHING since it isn't like your travel for evaluations cuts into school work (which is on-line ANYWAY). Frankly I would think EVERY player should do this - including some of our own - if what it means is that you can get some phone calls and feedback that NCAA rules would otherwise preclude.

Big pickup for UCLA. Even before this, they were ranked as the top team in the conference in the way-too-early national polls. 33rd rated player nationally in HS two years ago before going to Kentucky.
