The recent interest in/offers to Buggs and Hyder were the writing on the wall here. If Fox can somehow land both of those guys, we'll be fine at PG for the foreseeable future but there's now little room for more rejections.

We may be fine with Joel. Much can happen between now and the next season (2022?).

He can't play 40 minutes every game for 30+ games.

We still badly need to find a backup PG but this guy wasn't it. I'm extremely relieved. Nothing about this guy suggested he could contribute at a high major level. This was a major reach that I feared would backfire on us. And his rationale for making a decision suggests pretty clearly he wasn't a Cal guy. This was the least enthused I've been about a recruit in a while.

Agreed - I just hope we have that card up our sleave. Matt sliding to PG doesn't sound bueno.

I understand the sentiment but remember that he and his family and friends read this site and others. As do current recruits and their family and friends.

While I COMPLETELY appreciate that point of view (and often agree with it) I would also point out that as Cal fans we are pretty tame. You should read the sites of blue blood programs when they are not chosen. It is not pretty.

Oh I'm very aware of the vitriol that is college fandom. A recent example is how Michigan fans reacted to Josh Christopher's announcement of committing to Arizona State. But is that the standard we're comparing this community to? I agree these message boards stay (mostly) tame. Just using this as a moment to remind everyone these are college kids and the commenters are (mainly) grown adults with anonymity.

Moving on, Drew Buggs is the real deal. High basketball IQ.

Nathan Allen,

Please clearly explain what issue you had with Souse's post. Because it isn't clear to me. The day a poster can't give an educated opinion about a recruit is the day I'll no longer participate on these boards. Souse did not cross a line and didn't deserve to be scolded.

Also, aren't you pretty new around here? I don't recall you being around more than the last 18 months or so. Did you ever provide an introduction / bio? What's your connection to Cal?

I too was not high on this recruit. I think it is best for all concerned. I'm still hoping for a grad transfer PG for this season.

I agree. The right PG transfer could make our season next year. I am optimistic out bigs will all improve and if MB has a P12 POY type of season, a return to the Dance could be in the (pending covid19) offing.

This is an inappropriate response to Souse's post and if you are going to represent this site you owe Souse an apology and frankly the rest of us for trying to shut down speech. Souse's post was 100% spot on analysis and frankly a lot of have been thinking it since the recruit was mentioned and we held back because we are smart enough not to critique guys who our coach is actively recruiting. But requesting we not honestly critique without personal insult guys who choose somewhere else on the off chance that they or their family are still on this board (for what purpose? To see us weep over missing out?) is not reasonable.

Souse has been posting for many years and been a good and reasonable poster. I realize you have been given a measure of authority here. I would suggest you consider that long time posters, contributors and customers deserve a little respect and not to be treated like children or you will find you have a lot fewer of them.

So what. I don't really care what some bench warmer for Buffalo thinks about what's written here. I'm just glad he's not warming our bench.
