Started the season as the back up at SH and ended up #3 as the coach apparently lost confidence in him. So he barely played down the stretch. Averaged about 15 mins a game and 2.5 points. In HS was ranked in the 175-200 range and was a 3 star with finalists of SH, Dayton and a few others. Probably a Francis connnection since he's from NY.
All-Academic, big (6'4") point guard. Not in competition with Dyson.
How bad were Justin Cobbs' stats at Minnesota? Maybe he's one of those that just was buried in the depth chart and couldn't get any PT to put up any numbers.

I'm with you. Seton Hall was a top 15 team and was loaded with good guards. I'm not that concerned about his numbers. His HS film looked pretty good, I thought. Not a great shooter but he clearly has a strong handle and good size. Hopefully, it becomes a moot point by adding Hyder and Flowers though.

Well at least Hyder if Flowers recruitment goes sideways. It would be awesome if Hyder could play right away and he would have 3 years left too.

Here's a HS film reel. Looks like he's see the court well, good passer, can handle the ball well (dribbles a little high, but that can fixed) and is confident attacking the rim with his size. Not much here to show off his jumper so that may very well be his biggest weak spot. Reminds me of Ty Wallace especially as a lefty at 6'4" who is probably more comfortable driving than hitting a jumper. Definitely some things to like here. And after all, he was the #3 player in New York. Not ruling this out as a good potential option

Good comparison to Ty. Then he could be of help with length on D as well as on the boards.

Most highlight videos promote the athleticism of the player and his main skill. They usually show nothing about a player's defense, rebounding, or his passing, so this is a criticism of the video, not the player, but I counted 3 passes, maybe two assists, one three pointer made, a floater, maybe 4 shorter jump shots, and endless drives to the basket. I'd need to see game tapes, which are more indicative of how he plays the point. Does he look for the open man, or does he only look to score himself? What kind of a defender is he? Can he shut down the opposing point guard at the point of attack? I want a point guard who can average 5-6 assists, and 10-15 points, and be capable of 8 assists and 20 points, if he isn't guarded well. For the moment, I trust the Fox. If he is interested, it may mean the kid has something he likes.
Totally fair. None of these videos provide a ton to go on, that's for certain. But they do give you a general sense of a player's skill level. Obviously, the guys making offer calls have seen way more play and are in a much better position to assess. I was just trying to provide at least a tad more perspective than that what the stats show, while cognizant that there's much to more see.
There doesn't seem to be any confirmation that California has done more than chat with Nelson. There is no indication that they offered him a scholarship. His play at Seton Hall has been a clear disappointment to the coaching staff. They have effectively pushed him out. His court time progressively got lower throughout the year culminating in only 2 minutes in the team season ending loss.
His transfer interest is clearly stacked toward Mid Major college basketball programs. Hopefully he is not a serious prospect to be recruited to the Bears.

Better than nobody to back up Brown although we would have to offer a multi year scholarship so we need to be careful. Fox is no dummy. He knows more than we do.
